Before, during and after your shot, NEVER let the deer know you are there. Forget the fist pumping you see on tv. Stay still, stay quiet, and if that deer never knew you were there, your odds of recovering that deer go up dramatically, even with a marginal shot.

While waiting for your deer or hog...lay your bow across your lap or stand..not on a bow hook in the tree..Sometimes the deer just appears out of nowhere.[&:][&:][:@]any movement and it's gone

never again..

Be as quick andquiet as you can getting into and out of your stand. Sometimesdeer arecloser than you think.

Carry a compass..and flagger tape..The red flagger tape is to put on tree branches as you see blood..this way if you lose track you can go back to the flagger tape..When done..remove tape in order to not give away your honey hole..

The compass is for places where i hunt..real easy to get lost.

If your in doubt about the shot, BACK OUT.... Also stay in your stand and be quiet (I know it hard) for at least 30 minutes... Alot of times a hit deer will double back. If your not sure on the hit, give them at least 6 hours before picking up the trail....

My advice would be never come on here and post that you hit one, and cant find it, now what do I do. YOu might just get flamed. And bedfore "I" get flamed for this, yes, I am joking.

True dat. Same holds true when searching for sheds.

My advice is an old polish adage.. (I'm part polish)

Sometimes it's difficult to pass up a shot, but know your limits and stick with them. If you decide your limit is 25 yards or 30 yards and that deer is at 35... you gotta pass.

Spend as much time as you can with the animals you hunt in your area.. they will teach you the toughest but most valuable lessons.
