2008 Elk Hunting Contest Teams!!!!!!
 

Alright fellow elk hunters. We have enough interest to have an Elk hunting contest this year. Please sign up as soon as possible. I will post teams August 27th. I came up with a easy scoring system. So hopefully we have no confusion. If there are any questions please feel free to ask.
1 pt. for a spike
2 pts - cow
3 pts - 3 point bull
4 pts - 4 pont bull
5 pts - 5 point bull
6 pts - 6 point bull
etc.
And then a measurement for the widest part of the rack.
0-20" 1 pt.
21-30" 2 pt.
31-40" 3 pt.
41-50" 4 pt.
51-60" 5 pt.
61 plus 6 pt.
Count the side that has the most points. Rember this is just for fun. I will do my best and I expect the same from all who participate. Pictures with you, elk and bow. And don't forget your tag! A couple more people and we can get this started! I will be hunting back country along with some of you. I think a picture if the head will do. If you do not post a pic your points will not be counted. Please feel free to post any pictures you would like to share from your expierence.


Okay fellas, here are the teams for our 2008 Elk Hunting Contest!!! I gave everybody a number and my wife drew the numbers out of a hat to assign teams. So it doesn't get any better then this! If we have any late bloomers they will have to have a team of three prior to August 29th. To be in the contest. Lets make this a fun and reocurring event here on the forum!

so i had a spike 25 yards out from my treestand on opening morning, but he wouldnt step into my shooting lanes to present me with a shot....saw him again the next night but he was about 190 out with herd of about 8 cows. I climbed out of the stand to go after him on foot, but by the time I was able to get down (while trying to be quiet!) and get my gear together, they were long gone. I tried to locate him the rest of the evening but never saw them again.....how is it that such a BIG animal can be so hard to find!

came really close to killing a nice 5x5 bull tonight.. was filming myself.. got some good footage..HE FINALLY BUGLED twice! its about to start ... here! I will be hard after them the rest of the month.. mostly in the A.M. hunts.. some nights but saving most of my evenings for whitetails..

I wish it was starting here. Will head up Saturday morning again. Not bugling yet here in Southeastern WYO. plenty of time left. It is coming and the mornings are getting brisk.:)

couldnt hunt this morning had to go to work but filmed 2 bulls sparring and watched them exit were I hoped they would with the herd.. I'll be set up on that herd this evening after work.. counting the hours till works over! Bulls bugling this morning.. 2 5x5s, 4 spikes and 1 rag horn in the herd of about 25 cows/calfs.. Hope I can get it done this evening

Man I went out tuesday first time bow and elk hunting. I didn't hear or see anything. It was lots of fun. A friend and I went all over and found tons of tracks just not the elk. ha ha it was a lot of fun. I'm hooked hopefully I can get into at lest some cows.

quick update for me.. bear, couple whitetails and 6 elk passed by my ground blind last night.. elk were 40 yards out.. one small bull.. He was tempting! I was hoping the other bulls would show but didnt till after dark.. My freezer is pretty empty.. I am not gonna be too picky very long! LOL

I just moved here this June. I was living down in Oxbow, Oregon before I bought a place here. Still unpacking boxes..lol

I live in the NE corner of Midvale above the Lewis ranch. I've got a meager 7 acres surrouned by the Lewis & Sutton ranches. Both have given me permission to hunt on thier lands. Mostly mulies with some elk & antelope that winter here. I went out this morning and watched several does in different areas, looking for the bucks I saw 2 weeks ago (two nice 4X4's). There is a little fork-n-horn I've been seeing around, but mostly just a couple doe families. One which lives in my yard. Troy gave me some good food plot ideas for my lower 3 acres so I'm hoping to get them in for next season...right now I'm just getting the lay of the land.

I'm hunting elk in the Weiser zone this year. I was going to hunt Brownlee zone but didn't get in the scouting time I wanted thanks to moving. I will be hitting a couple good spots that I got into elk last season in off Cuddy Mountain. Bad thing is they made unit 22 a 2-point only buck unit, so my big buck hunting will be left for other areas (I just know I'm gonna see a monster buck when elk hunting in 22..lol)

Cuz...No worries...we're all busy bees and I know you have shifted gears and have whitetails on the brain. You need to shoot that little bull and leave the big boy for Ryan when he gets there ;)I have a freezer full of beef, so I'll be looking for big antlers all season, otherwise that fat doe that keeps poking her head out of my brush patch would be looking tempting come late Oct. [8D]

Hey Oregon...what part?? I have a place down on the Snake River (Oxbow Reservoir) on the Oregon side. I stay there during the week for work. If you elk hunt Hells Canyon area let me know..

I see, Man I love fishing oxbow!!!!!!! I miss hells canyon in general!!! I am also hunting th weiser river zone. Just a litle further north than you!! I have done very good in the past up there! I know I will see a monster mulie this year too! Heck you can't even shoot a doe in unit 22! I hope it is worth it! My cousins are the suttons. Tell them the Foruria's say hello! I am outta hear tomorrow am!

checking in after this evenings hunt.. set up on the ground and had spike bull come by at 3 yards.... slam dunk shot but decided before he showed I was gonna hold out for the bigger bulls in the area. I may wish this one was in the freezer though! lol anyway was a great night got him walking by me on video, having lots of fun and will be going back after them in the morning ..hunting whitetails tomorrow too.. depending on what the elk are up too in the a.m....whitetails forsure in the evening ..
