Can "Hunting" be defined?

You're bringing (IMO) the variable of illegal activity into the equation where it doesn't belong. I stated in the original post that everything being done was being done, legally.
And to add to the mess, you may have common sense GW's where you live, but here in PA, they used to fine guys coming out of the woods after dark for hunting after hours. Our times ended at sunset. Even if you chose to honor the law and quit hunting with full light, sometimes a long hike out or even being pinned down by deer and making you late would get you a fine. They've since changed the rules thankfully.

I'm not sure how that relates to this discussion....as long as we can all understand that I'm not condoning or even putting illegal activity into the mix.
EVERYTHING (in the scenarios depicted) is being done, legally.
Can we say what "hunting" is FOR someone else? Can we define what it is, to them?

Hunting is defined in all hunting regulations. That's all you need to know.
For example... I just got my New York license today. The regs say:
To Hunt-- means to pursue, shoot, kill or capture (other than trap0 wildlife and includes all lesser acts that disturb or worry wildlife whether or not they result in taking. Hunting also insludes all acts to assist another person in taking wildlife.

Well.....At the most rudimentary level, I would think we could define it as the pursuit of game.. Beyond that it gets fuzzy.

The word hunting has a defanition but hunting in and of itself means something differant to everyone.
A better question would have been, what does hunting mean to you.

You cannot define or say what hunting is for anyone other than yourself. It is all a matter of your perspective. Like Kick_Buck said, it changes for people, for him day to day. Do you think the Aborigines that hunt with spears have the same perspective as us? Of course not.

Maybe it would be better to explain whathunters are.
I have hit golf balls ,does that make me a golfer?
I have bandaged injury's ,am I a doctor?
Did Jimmy Houston shooting a drugged deer in a pen qualify him as a hunter?
