Bowtech owners and cable slides

I've been shooting Bowtechs since the fall of '06. I've had several of their bows, now, and have almost alwayshad to deal with clearance issues with Blazers and the cables.

I went to the bow shop at lunch....and we stuck one on the shop owner's bow (bow like mine) and man what a difference. No press needed.....and there is no more issue. I can now shoot cock vane up and clear my rest without a problem.

A little money goes a long ways.;)

SIms cable slide (cable slide was in the thread header).

I suppose a lot of them would do the trick, though.

Thanks for clarifying!!! I had the same issue on my Black Iceand stripped my arrows of the Blazers....are the cables still on the inside or to the outside ofdat dereslide shaft thingy?

Which model???

RE: Bowtech owners and cable slides

I wouldn't use the Sims. It's making clearance, but the Sims will yank them over enough to induce additional torque on the cable system. Since there are no yokes on the cables to balance this out with, this can induce unnecessarycam lean. The Hick 3D teflon slide will give enough clearance for blazers on a normal hunting shaft but won't yank everything over quite as far as a Sims slide.

There is a very good reason why Pat recommends the Hicks slide instead of the Sims. It works well, I've personally used it on my bows to get enough clearance for Blazerson an 04 Patriot, 05 Allegiance, 05 Old Glory, 06 Constitution, 07 Constitution, and 07 Guardian. They sell them at Lancaster's site for $4.99.

My best bud Dan (Jaws) just got a used Commander that had a Sims slide on it. The cams were leaning pretty good both at static and full draw. I slipped that slide off it and replaced with a Hicks and now no more cam lean.

Just an FYI..........[8D]

Thanks, Matt. I'll order the hicks, then. We just used what he had on hand.

RE: Bowtech owners and cable slides

There are 3 models of slides listed under the Hicks name on Lancasters website. You want the white one listed as the "3D" slide. This makes a difference as the others are pulling the cables over too far or not enough. If I still had an extra I'd send it to you but my last 2 are on Dan'snew bow and my new Guardian. [8D]

RE: Bowtech owners and cable slides

This may be a little bit dumb, but I’m helping a kid at work setup his bow and I had to adjust the cable slide over to get his blazers to clear. It’s a low end Martin, mag Cat or something. I get clearance, but it does look like its pulled over farther than it should be, although if I move it anymore in, it’ll hit. Are there some bows that just don’t have the geometry to use blazers without having to yank over the cables too much?

As long as you're getting vane clearance from your rest......nothing.;)

I didn't like the cable slide that came on my Guardian at all. It had a sticky chattering to it. Before I left the shop I changed it out to an aftermarket deal. Love it.

Because you're worrying too much about uneven nock travel andtolerance issues.[8D]

Sometimes the cables get in the way of the innermost vane when using Blazers.

You've probably never had to deal with it on a Mathews....because it usually only affects bows shooting over 260fps.;)

They all say 3D. One says hunting, other target, and the other says 70-10 3D. Which one should I get for my Guardian? I don't shoot blazers, so clearance is not as much an issue, but cables more out of peep view would be nice. I have aftermarket Eastman slide now (which I think is similar offset as Sims), but it does pull to the side quite a bit. Which Hicks slide would pull over more than stock, but not a lot?

Jeff I'm glad the Simms worked. I was worried you wouldn't be able to use those arrows!

I recall you saying to order the white one?

I just turn my nock slightly.....I guess this equates to cock feather out.(sorry abt. blurry pic.)
Does anyone know of a good slide for a Guardianthat accomodates a drop aways cord without pulling the cables too much?

If you do that with a QAD....you're more than likely goingto get vane contact with your right prong.

David,
I think that is the same one I have on my Guardian, Is it the Parker Productions Radius Slide?

Mine works great.

I have never had this problem. I shoot a Dropzone. Is this something only inherent to the Guardian bows?

Because Mathews is a real bow with real R&D[8D].

Seriously... I can't believe Bowtech allowed a SINGLE bow out the door with that black plastic cheap POS cable slide they came standard with. Half of them broke within the first few months. I took mine off after one day of shooting with it on. I knew it was junk. I put on a teflon slide and never looked back. Of course I no longer shoot that bow either....I have a real bow....A Mathews.:D:D:D.

I'm surprised it took you this long to change it Jeff.

I've owned literally 7 bowtechs and never had a stock cable slide fail, and I've never personally heard a first hand account of one failing. I typically changed them out for a Hicks slide within a few thousand shots of buying those bows, but never had one fail and I've got a good combined 10,000 shots on stock slides between those various bows. I have however had 6 different Mathews bows with the roller guards, and 2x of those failed me and had to be taken apart and cleaned or replaced. One of those the cable kept hopping off the track completely and caused damage to the cables.

Both are great bows but trust me when I say the cable slide Bowtech supplies is fine and a quality piece. It's just not designed for a super high profile vane type(like the Blazer) pointing almost straight at the cables. If you do shoot the Blazer vanes, you either turn the nock so that it is slightly angled like mentioned above, and if you have to use one of the very fewrest types thatwon't accomodate(because they don't drop fast enough) this you buy a $5 slide.

Rob/PA Bowyer 08-22-2008 05:38 PM

RE: Bowtech owners and cable slides

Nor have I Matt.

I probably have more shots through my 06 Ally than most and it's flawless. I shoot my vanes like pictured above course I don't have a QAD.
