I believe that all you need to score the buck as a non-typical is 1" of abnormal point growth. You may score your bucks either way as long as they meet this requirement. It may or may not hurt you depending on what you decide to do.

ORIGINAL: GregH I believe that all you need to score the buck as a non-typical is 1" of abnormal point growth. You may score your bucks either way as long as they meet this requirement. It may or may not hurt you depending on what you decide to do. ORIGNIAL: Measuring and Scoring North American Big Game Trophies - Second Edition - pg. 39 If there are numerous abonormal points, the non-typical score chart should be used so that the additional points can add to the final score, rather than being subtracted from it. If the abnormal points are few in number and short in length(s), use the typical score chart that provides for a subtraction of the total lengths of such points as a penalty for non-symmetry. If there is any doubt as to which score chart should be use, the trophy can be measured both ways. If the trophy qualifies for both the typical and non-typical catagories, it CANNOT be listed in both. The final choice of the listing catagory in such instances rests with the trophy owner. |

To qualify for B&C i think there is a minimum number of inches of nontypical growth, otherwise it is just deductions from typical.

RE: Does a sticker off of a main beam make a buck NT ?
Although not a "rule" the P&Y measurer I use suggests listing a buck as a non typical if the rack has around 10% or greater of it's score in abnormal points, other wise he suggests the typical category.
EX. 180 inch deer with 18 inchesof abnormal points. The choice is up to whom ever is entering the deer, only a suggestion he offers to those "caught" in that predicament. |
