Picked up my 07 KS Bowkill Gobbler.
 

Hey guys, well a year April my bird is finally home from KS.

If ya'll remember, I went to KS in April 07 for their first ever archery only opener for their spring gobbler season. My friend, tkycaller (Wags) here on HNI went with me. We were hunting with Paradise Adventures. We were also fliming with River Valley Game Calls which I successfully took two spring birds, one Rio and one Eastern and Wags successfully took a gorgeous Rio with his bow the last day of a 3 day hunt.

We're still hopeful the footage will spring up somewhere, either on a new DVD or on the website.

Here's one of my hero shots from that hunt. This was my very first spring gobbler with a bow but my 4th mounted bird.

elevate it from any dog like GMMAT said, my buddies was chewed up after about 3 days cause he put it on the floor.


That may very well be the most beautiful turkey mount I have ever seen.

Rob the mount looks great. glad you got it back to add to your collection. Im waiting on my spring Mo bird i got while with HB, its supposed to be done this fall.. would you believe we picked the same exact pose ? a strut gobble ;)looks great, love it.

Tembry, poor little Axle can't reach him. I know what he'd do. I have a struttin Eastern and Axel jumps at him when I'm in the room somtimes. He can't reach any of the 4 birds nor any other mount.

The taxidermist is Layon Taxidermy in Montoursville, PA. Chris is a good friend of mine.

HuntingEd, thanks Ed. I was suprised to be honest. I have a full strut Eastern. His head is tucked in and I was pleasantly surprised to see this one gobblin. I told Chris to full strut him and use your judgement. He prides himself in his turkeys. Here's the two strutters. First one Eastern, second one this new Rio.





livbucks, yes good eye, it's a freeze dried head. Chris (Laylon Taxidermist) prides himself on his birds. He only uses the head from the bird, puts your name on it and makes sure it's the one you turned in unless of course you shot it off...LOL

GMMAT, thanks brother. Best ever? I'll let Chris know. I really didn't pick it out, just trusted Chris and shazaam. What a gorgeous mount. I first heard it was done from my buddy Ray Smith, founder of River Valley Game Calls. He was there and picked up a Merriam his wife shot and he mentioned seeing my KS Rio and how gorgeous it was. Chris then called me to pick it up. I love it but am not sure where in the house to put it. I have some left over logs to build a pedistal for each of the two mounts you see above and when I finish the basement/bar area I'm going to put them in opposite corners I think.

Kelly, KY, Thanks Kelly, hey put me on a big KY buck or any and I'll put you on a turkey, your place or mine. I've been known to call in a few. ;) You just have to hit them. :D

blood(twin), that doesn't suprise me at all. He's 1 of 4 mounts so far. I say so far as I want a standing upright now. The bird I missed on camera in NC last year would have been perfect with that huge beard. I have a flying turkey, a half strut/on the limb gobblin mount, a full strut and a full strut/gobblin now. Add the upright and a Merriam, Osceola and I'll be complete.

MichaelP, thanks, he does look like you should hear him spit and drum. He's already had one arrow sent through him, don't think there will be any more. LOL Did you check out the commericial to see him strut when I took him?

Rob, Congrats, that looks great bud. If I ever kill a turkey(:eek:). I hope my mount looks 1/2 that good. I'm sure your proud as can be. Print out this thread and take it to your taxi. Im sure it would make his day.;):)

Aaron (buckmaster), you'll get a bird. I'll make sure Chris sees the thread, or at least it's praises. He does a fantastic job on birds. He's done all 4 of my turkey mounts, my coyote and last 2 deer heads. As long as he's in business, he's got mine. My former taxi who did my elk, bear and other deer heads is good as well but he didn't always return phone calls to people I sent to him so, I stopped sending people.

That is a REALLY great looking turkey mount Rob. You just don't see many turkey mounts with that kind of detail/realism.
