What the heck is up with Nugent these days

Don' t get me wrong because I think he' s done a lot of good work, but it seems like Ted is proclaiming himself as the next Fred Bear. I personally think he' s whats wrong with the image of hunters as red neck, gun carrying, right winged, nuts. I don' t thing anyone has ever called Fred Bear a nut, but a pioneer. Is Ted the best we can do to lead the hunting movement into the future? Is he the Fred Bear of today? If not who is?

RE: What the heck is up with Nugent these days

I happen to like Ted. I like the no nonsense approach and the honesty of his presentation. I won' t refute the fact that he is a little right of center for mainstream America. Is this good or bad? I think it is good. Who, besides, Charleton Hesston and Uncle Ted do we have out on the streets sticking up for us? Hollywood, and professional musicians are basically all antis and they are in the paper weekly spouting off their views. We have two voices against two institutions. People listen to these folks, because they can act or sing they are held at a higher esteem within mainstream America. Look through the papers and CNN, how many of these people do they interview weekly with their thoughts on the situation in Iraq? How many of them can even tell you where Iraq is? America wants to hear what they have to say. Those are the sad facts that we have to live with. Both of these men are shunned in their respective professions, not because they hunt or have guns, but because they speak publically about it. Our side need all the help it can get, the other side is lauded while we are crucified. Madonna has taken up pheasant hunting in England in the past couple of years, how many of you saw or knew about that? It does not get pulisized unless Field and Stream or someone like that picks it up. Then we find out about it but the people that need to know don' t. They aren' t likely to beleive Field and Stream either, that magazine is biased, why wouldn' t they print that, I didn' t see it on CNN, Madonna is not on MTV talking about it like that idiot Ted Nugent. How many times do you see a clip in a hunting magazine or on the Outdoor Channel where they talk about a celebrity hunting or shooting event and you say, " Wow, I had no idea they were a hunter or shooter." Weather you like him or hate him, he gives us a voice where it is sorely needed. My two cents, this should be a good post.

I like Ted too...well, most of the time. I love his enthusiasm for the hunting, knives, and gun toting. I tell ya what, each time I watch his show, he gets me all sorts of excited about next season.

Yes, he has a loud and sometimes obnoxious way about him, but he is on our side....THANK GOODNESS!!! A few of you have mentioned some of the Hollywood stars, correct? I' m sure you remember every single one of those outspoken people, and almost hold a little hatred towards their views, correct? Well Ted does that for us. I don' t like everything he says or does, but I would love to meet a fella who you' d rather send into a debate instead of him. He talks the talk and walks the walk. He is VERY knowledgable not only about the current laws on the books, but the history of guns and hunting. In reference to the Fred B.comment, let' s not forget, ol' Uncle Ted has the right to call him a ' nut' , he hunted with the man all the time and " shared many a campfire" with him. If you watch his show religiously, Ted shows nothing but respect for Fred Bear and his enormous impact on hunting.

I met Ted one time in a bowshop in South Dakota, and I must say he is about as nice of a fella as you will ever meet. He had every opportunity to leave during the several hours I was there, but he stuck around and signed autographs and hung out to ' talk shop' . The entire time he was encouraging all of us to do all we can to protect this wonderul right we have to hunt.

Do any of you go out and speak to others about our right to carry arms, hunt, and to flat out try to make a difference? Nope, nor do I speak out as much as I should, which makes me respect him all the more.

Just my two cents.

If the people that don' t like Ted for what he is doing I would like to see THEM step up and take over where Ted left off! Or maybe its just easier to sit on the couch and bash him and let him do the dirty work for us hunters!! At least Ted gives back in a good way and I can' t see bashing that![:-] Ted has a style that I like...No fronts! Rock on Ted...Thats just my opinion![:-]

Ted Nugent, whether a person likes his style or the way he comes across, does do good things for the sport and for children. He runs or attends youth camps for hunting and spends times with the kids. They seem to like him and relate well to his message.
I don' t think he is trying to take over or become Fred Bear. He speaks of him with great respect. I just see him as another, different type of, guy bring the message in his own way.
I won' t want to spend a week with him in camp but he might feel the same about a rigid old f@rt like me.
Like someone said earlier, it beats sitting on the sofa doing nothing and he' s on our side.

Although Ted has done much for the sport I would perfer to see a Dave Watson type of indiviual step to the forfront. Now I said type, not necessarily DW himself.

Well, at first i didn' t really care for ted. Me and him have political disagreements, but i watched him do a seminar at the outdoorama, and really enjoyed his no nonsense, anti-drug attitude, I even got his signature on my michigan bowhunters hat! This guy really grows on people!! I am now a believer in uncle ted!

RE: What the heck is up with Nugent these days

I just saw Ted at the Iowa Deer Classic this past weekend and let me just say that he is a voice for all hunters and gun owners out there.

Is he Fred Bear? No, nobody is Fred Bear but Fred Bear. He' s not trying to be Fred Bear, and I' d like to see an example of when he' s ever proclaimed himself to be so.

That said, whether you like him or not Ted Nugent is one of the greatest fighters we have against those that would try to take our rights away. I will never, EVER, question whether Ted is good for our sport. I only wish there were more like him. Unfortunately most hunters are apethetic when it comes down to politics and fighting for our rights. Even the guys who make the videos and produce the tv shows and sell us all the products we take out into the woods every spring and fall so often fail to use their resources to help the protect our rights.

What' s Ted up to? He' s saving all our asses, that' s what.

Thanks Ted!! God bless America!

yes Ted is an activist,,, on our side. In todays politically correct society ted is a breath of fresh air. You have all of these hollywood dummy crats trying to get back to the 60s and protest anything they can get there hands on. is Nugent extreme? probably but not as bad as baldwin, streistand, madonna, and all these others that use there fame to work against the structure on what this great country is based. if these people do not want to support the red, white , and blue then leave. Its not as nice in any other country. That being said, we need more like ted or well will all be eating veggies instead of what GOD intended,,,, meat!!!!

Ted is a lot of things,I like the things he is NOT......
1.He is not politically correct!
2.He is not a " YES" man!
3.He is not afraid to say exactly what he is thinking!
4.He is not a poster boy cutout for mainstream America, nor does he want to be!
5.He is not about to change because he is in your face " TED" !
I respect him and what he stands for, unforunately the things he stands for are things that not many people have,or they are not used to seeing! They are things that most politicans dont have.....honesty,integrity,selfrespect and the " BALLS" to stand up to others that want to take away some of our rights as hunters and outdoorsmen!
Who do you want to represent us, someone like Jackie Bushman or Ted Nugent?
Bushmans politically correct hunting show makes me sick!
There, I feel better now!!!!

Ted is Ted! He is not trying to be anyone but himself, don' t know why you think he is trying to be someone else.

Keep being yourself and who cares what others think! Leaders are not people that follow the crowd and do what everyone else thinks they should do!

My wife despises him and I like the heck out of him. In my 53 years, he' s about the only rock star that I' ve ever seen that had any sense. He' s a little dramatic sometimes but heck, he' s a showman, that' s what he does for a living. His hunting shows are alot better than most of those lazy hunting hosts shooting out of blinds on baited fields for all kinds of money.

Charlie P 03-13-2003 12:14 PM

RE: What the heck is up with Nugent these days

Rockytop, His shows are all about shooting over bait at preserves. I don' t know what show you watched, but in everyone I watched except for a bear hunt in Alaska he was hunting virtually tame animals over bait. Unless those piles of corn on the ground were their naturally. Many of the shows the other animals that weren' t shot just stood around.

RE: What the heck is up with Nugent these days

Nugent is great when he is preaching to the choir, buy he turns off alot of people that don' t hunt but vote. Just like baldwin, streistand and madonna.

Who do you want to represent us, someone like Jackie Bushman or Ted Nugent?

I' d rather have someone like Dave Watson. He also speaks out for us hunters. I know he doesn' t get on politcall incorrect. Nor does he go on shows to push his books, but he is a very good voice.

I like Ted' s in your face, no nonsense approach. He' s straight forward, tells it like it is, and doesn' t beat around the bush. He' s different, but so are you & I. Fred Bear I highly doubt it, nor do I see where he' s trying to be Ol' Fred. I' m jealous he got to spend some time & knowledge with Mr. Bear! As far as his TV show, I enjoy it. So what if he hunts at Sunrize Safari' s most of the time, and sometimes over bait. He enjoys himself, and thats all any of us want to do, only he fights for us to do it! And speaking of bait, is hunting over a farmers man made planted corn field or a food plot a whole lot different then throwing some on the ground near your stand! I personally don' t do it, but I do take advantage of farmers fields.

It' s nice having a right wing, gun toting, pro-second amendment activist who can articulate what is right about the shooting sports. More importantly, it is important that we have our spokesman in the Hollywood world of liberializm.
I' ll take all the help we can get

I have Personely Hunted At his ranch in Jackson Michigan, And I did not see one bait pile in the 500 acher ranch except for the feed they put out for the Russian Boars. On a diffrent note, last month someone broke into his ranch and shot 70% of all his animals including all of his Buffalo.

RE: What the heck is up with Nugent these days

Not many people outside of the " hunting world" know who Fed Bear is (was). Back in his prime, there weren’t thousands of people trying to stop him and other hunters from hunting. If you were trying to find the " Fred Bear" of today, most people would look at someone like Chuck Adams. But again, the enemy would say " who is Chuck Adams, and why would we care about what he thinks or what he does?" To be heard, it helps to be known. Lots of famous people hunt. There are probably even quite a few that bowhunt. But how many of them are out there everyday fighting for us, defending our rights to hunt? I can only think of Charlton Hesston and Ted Nugent. As for Hesston, his fighting days are over.

Another good thing about Uncle Ted is that, like it or not, people like him are our best recruiters for young people (besides their parents). I would not be a bowhunter today if it weren' t for him. As a kid, I always went gun hunting with my beer drinking, dog running, redneck family, but no one ever taught me or showed me how to be the true hunter / ethical outdoorsman that I am today. I happened to see Ted Nugent in concert when I was 15 or 16 years old. He shot a flaming arrow at a huge speaker from his bow, on stage. That started it all for me. I say we need more people like Ted Nugent.

Turkeyreaper, I' ve seen it on his show many times. Elk,exotics, whitetail and pigs all shot over corn. He doesn' t try and hide it and it' s legal.

My reponse was to this.

His hunting shows are alot better than most of those lazy hunting hosts shooting out of blinds on baited fields for all kinds of money.

He hunts places all the time where somebody does his scouting and stand placement. It' s no different then most show on TV.
