Would you find it interesting"?
Would you find it "interesting" to know everyone's "affiliations" (however slight or strong) with all archery mfr's.?
Would it affect how you viewed/weighed their posts? |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
It might affect how I viewed their posts, but not necessarily in a bad way. It doesn't automatically make me discount what they have to say, that's for sure. I let hard data decidewhat I listen to and what I discount. Feel free to give me your opinion but I need data to believe it as gospel. ;)

Nope, some people think or feel they need to prove they know it all! I know who I can gather useful info from, the others, strictly entertainment! |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
Not in the least to both questions.
|
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
I suppose that went by like an F-16 :D
Great post, Matt.;) |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
I suppose with some it would, but those that I've read enough from to trust their judgement it would have no affect.

Do you never wonder why some products are touted as heavly as they are......and why?

One of the toughest and most important things to do in life is to develop the ability to sift through all the BS in order to obtain the information that you want/need.
|
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
It would be ineresting to see that but it doesnt mean I would nessessaraly discount thier opinion. It would still be....thier opinion.

RE: Would you find it interesting"?
I think sometimes people take enthusiasm by an affiliated person as being "misleading" or biased info, when in reality that simply isn't the case. Sometimes personality conflicts compound this it seems. 99.999999999% of the time, these guys choose to become affiliated because they trulybelieve in the product.
I also think there are a lot of people that are fanatical supporters of certain products that are not affiliated in anyway but subscribe to the "it's better because I use it" mentality. I'm just sayin.........;) I'm not currently sponsored or affiliated with anyone other than Gold Tip in case I'm one of the people in question. If I'm shooting or using something, it's because I want to........affiliated or not. If I end up affiliated with anyone elsein the future it's because I'm convinced they are best of breed. |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
It would be ineresting to see that but it doesnt mean I would nessessaraly discount thier opinion. I find it interesting that we are quick (as a community) to put down TV shows for their affiliations, though (sponsorships). What makes them any different than the ones we see in here? |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
I think it's hilarious sometimes. Like when I posted pics of "My new Dream Season" I got a couple of nice bow comments and the thread fell off the face of the earth. No one ask me how it shot, pros and cons, anything. If I'd got a new Allegenience or General or Bowtech anything it would have went to 4+pages worth of back pats.

I wish I had a dollar for everytime somebody:
Received a free string suppressor from the manufacturer . . . then . . . RECOMMENDED that samestring suppressor to somebodyelse! LMAO ![]() Thank god most bows now come stock with a factory suppressor - so I don't have to hear about it anymore. |

RE: Would you find it interesting"?
Well I would probably like to know everything my wife thinks too, but I would never kick her to the curb because I don't know.
Affiliation does not have to be whoredom. That is where I draw the line. LT |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
Not at all.

RE: Would you find it interesting"?
The problem with the archery industry is twofold........it's a very small community in general, and one that hands out "Pro-staff", "Field Staff","Hunting Staff" etc affiliations like they are $.99 Wal Mart Blue Light Specials.
Between the Unearned "Where do I sign up" staff positions, Shop shooters, Shop workers, True Pro Staffs, even employees it seems like 1/2 of the archery community has some sort of affiliation........There's even a joke called the "Archers Handshake" which is generally depicted as 2 hands held out palms up.;) There CAN be real BS to wade through on forums........guys touting a broadhead as a "staff" member who have never killed anything with it. (I've actually seen this MULTIPLE times:eek:), Shop shooters who tout their favorite bows can be some of the most rabid. Heck we don't even know how OLD and what experience level many of these "experts" possess, and the real anonymous ones can be the most misleading. I would sure like to know that the advice I'm getting on a new Hoyt bow isn't from a dealer who lost his dealership because he didn't pay his bills. Generally if that information and level of affiliation was up front and in the openwe arefor the most part smart enough to identify shiz from shinola........then we can decide if it should be filed away or flushed. This will never happen though so take everything you read with a grain of salt, ask questions and use common sense. |

Generally if that information and level of affiliation was up front and in the openwe arefor the most part smart enough to identify shiz from shinola........then we can decide if it should be filed away or flushed. I meant (and stated so VERY early) no disrepsect to the "staffers" on board. What I can't explain is how we look at the TV shows as (many do) pure "pitch men", though. I actually don't make the different distinctions. They're simply "staffers" on a different level. |

I actually don't make the different distinctions. They're simply "staffers" on a different level. I'm sure there are some TV personalities who use what they use because they truly believe in the product or help in it's promotion in some way beyond a logo on the TV screen..........sort of a chicken and the egg thing where maybe they were using it for years that LEAD to that logo on the screen and they might actually STILL use it even if it wasn't helping pay the bills. Then you have the pimps like the Fitzgeralds for example (I just needed an example, sorry Fitz fans) who have gone through probably a dozen bow sponsors in the last 15 years and each one is the "best" while they are paying the bills. Their show can sound like a one of those old time travelling medicine salesmen. At the other end you have the actual gear Manufacturers actively seeking these personalities themselves as part of their marketing strategy. It's no coincidence that you see T/C arms in basically 95% of all on screen gun hunts. [:-] The true "Non Personality" related Pro staffer is a completely different animal and I guess since I see or have seen every single level and type of affiliation that there is from the inside I see all the very distinct levels and shades of "staffdom" Staff affiliations area very confusing and convoluted area of our chosen sport and the media that surrounds it and I wouldn't blame anyone who just lumpedeveryone who has a logo or trademark attached to their name into the same pot of stew. |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
What I can't explain is how we look at the TV shows as (many do) pure "pitch men", though. I actually don't make the different distinctions. They're simply "staffers" on a different level. I would think that most here would easily recognize someone going a little too far beyond the call of duty to put money directly in their own pocket in a scenario like that. While they may fractionally perpetuate their own potential to stay employed with a company that's doing well by recommending something...theycertainly aren't the advertising ho(s) that many TV "pros" are. |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
People probly assume i shoot bowtech, but i dont
I think that bowtech makes a great product but i also believe that a bow is only as good as the person shooting it. Just found my new sig, A bow is only as good as the person holding it. |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
Yeah, but let's be fair, Matt....
I'm sure there are somemfr. stafferswho use what they use because they truly believe in the product or help in it's promotion in some way beyond a"Staff affiliation" logo.............. As I am.....;) Then you have the folks pimping the "Product of the day/week/month/year" BECAUSE of said affiliation.....when they had a different view of what was "best" just last year.....last month.....or....whenever.... That's where things get annoyingly confusing. |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
Interesting??.. Na.. not really.
I really could care very little what another man/woman shoots or uses.. to each his/her own. Would it affect the weight of there posts..?? Maybe. But I doubt it since I never ask what anyone uses anyway. All in all.... did I really have to answer this Q..?? Not really.. but I'm bored and hungry for the season to begin already.[&:] |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
Yes and YES
|
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
I would find it interesting for sure! but I might view his/her post differently depending on the subject.
|
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
No, it would not because I shoot what I like to shoot.
|
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
Doesn't matter much to me what others promote, I shoot what I shoot because I enjoy it, or I have been successful with it...
You guys don't have to worry about me being a promoter of any brand bow...Nobody wants an OF that still shoots fingers....:D |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
I shoot what I shoot the best with bottom line, just becuases someone states this is great or that is great, it may be for them or they may be paying paid to state that either way doesn't have bearing on me
|
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
"here I go again on my own"---Whitesnake....:) You know why I do not care Jeff....because all I need is a bow that is shooting straight out to 30 yards with a good solid broadhead....everything else is just icing on the cake. I could give two craps about certain things.

I tried to find a forum suitable for this thread and I couldn't find one.;)
There are "professionals" and there are self proclaimed, it's hard to distinquish at times which is which and whom are whom. I would hope if someone didn't believe in a product, they wouldn't be associated with nor tote said product. |

Rob...' I would hope if someone didn't believe in a product, they wouldn't be associated with nor tote said product."
I know you and I probably wish people did this but this is not accurate. How many athletes do you see endorsing Gatorade for example. Come on guys, they do not use Gatorade, they use very specific protein/electrolyte/carb drinks that are wayyyy more advanced to refuel. That is just one example. There are a thousand more.....remember this, MONEY rules the world and people will sell out in a split second to get it. |

I can't see saying this or that if I didn't believe or feel it's what it is. Otherwise would make you/that person a fake/liar to be blunt. I know it happens a ton in television personalities, but does it happen in a simple forum? |

"For example, I've turned down free product as well as "positions" on products I would never use or don't feel they live up to what they are."
That is integrity and I respect that alot. Another thing I find HILLARIOUS is guys on hunting videos being called "pro-staffers" because they shoot a couple of bucks on their OWN properties. What makes you a "pro-staff" when all you do is shoot two bucks on 1000 acres? Come on now. Call them "staff members"...LOL. |
RE: Would you find it interesting"?
I do my best to look at a man's heart and not his logo.

RE: Would you find it interesting"?
Well opportunity comes to many of us through our participation on the boards. The knowledge, desireand passion we share with others is a reflection of how we may represent a Company. There are many great hunters who are so wrapped up in themselves, that they couldn't promoteindoor plumbing to Indians.
I'd like to think that many of us have turned down, perhaps as many if notmore, offers, than we've accepted because of belief in a product, person or agenda. Is my reputation worth $100 dollars worth of camo..$200? Of course not. Ican tell quite easily, who the believers are and who the "me too" guys are. I'm sure many of us can. Just as you can tell who the Companys are, who believe in their Customers and their product, and who are just in it for every dime they can reap. |
