Does anyone else think that buck has a large snout. Doesn't look right!

Yes that was my first thought even in the trail cam pic. That deer has an abnormally large head. nice though. I didn't know that people thought that spike deer would stay spike deer. that blows my mind. was it just what your dad taught you?

Was this a free range deer or a captive deer?
I saw the same show. It was a free ranging deer when it was a spike. The deer was captured and then placed in a fenced in area. He was basically a pet and fed high nutritional food his whole life. This was not a normal scenerio. Any spike can become a very good buck as long as he is on a ranch and being hand fed. I don't believe in the once a spike always a spike theory, but most yearling spikes in normal conditions aren't going to become booners. Most yearling spikes leave their home area anyway, so if you see a yearling spike one year, you may never see him again. Bottom line, if you want to shoot a spike, then do it. It's not going to destroy yourherd.

Jeff, how do you know that's the same buck. Not pushing any buttons here, just asking
See that big over bite, no mistaken that buck.[8D]
