Opposite here, Kyle.

Legal for deer but not for bear.

If it were legal I would most definitely bait bear, though I'm not a huge fan of baiting deer.

I think anyone with half a brain cell can see that its a statement and not a generic question no matter how you try to spin it.
If you go back and reread the thread, I think you will see that everyone tried to avoid the word except you!
Blah, blah, blah....

You accused me of saying something I didn't say.....and now you wanna say "I" am spinning something (when you can't find ANYWHERE where I said it)?

Anyone with half a brain cell can read.Besides....you don't need to interpret what I said. It's perfectly clear AND I explained it to you.

I guffaw......[&:]

OK..... OK..... guys. Let me say this. I don't bash deer baiting. I don't think its wrong. Its just illegal here and I haven't seen any use to it anyways. I can hit the big woods and kill a deer almost everyday that i go out. I set up on trails, funnels, bedding areas and food sources when I can. But food souces are hard to fugure out b/c they are scattered and may be miles apart. Deer and bear browse all day long.... they don't hit the feilds at dusk and dawn. Bear are not nocturnal. They move all day long. Bear are slow and will meander through the woods on no given path. They are here today and gone tommorrow. A bear that you have coming in during the spring season may be 20miles away come fall. When a bear finds a reliable food source....... YES it will come back.

I can pattern deer........ But it is impossible to pattern bear. PERIOD.

DO I think its a double standard? YES. Why can't I bait deer? Because the local laws say I can't. Deer baiting laws won't change here...... if numbers are too high they will simply put out a 2nd and 3rd deer tag. Conservation officials are too worried that we may pass on TB or CWD if we bait.
Here's one for you guy's to think about. In MB it's illegal to bait deer as I said. Big woods or farmland. Standing crops are not considered baiting but cut crops still in the feild or bailed is baiting. Is this a double standard?

With that being said I think I'm baiting deer as this yr i have permission to hunt private land. The zone is archery muzzleloader only....... but you can only harvest a buck with bow. The farmer has beans and oats in the feilds. Am I baiting deer? [&:]

Good to hear GMMAT. I've always appreciated your posts and thought that this was going in the wrong direction. Honestly up here you have to bait bear. I baited for the first time this yr and had 6 different bear hitting it. Some hit on a regular basis and some didn't. Most were young. If you want a mature bear you need to bait for yrs....... or just set up and get lucky. Schultzy and I have trading info on it. Honestly he knows more than me....... I have alot to learn about bear. But I'm learning everyday that my bait is allowed to be out.
AsMOST guys will notice hunting deer on private land and public will be black and white. Its a different hunt altogether. They are different creatures....... from what I have noticed deer have a home range and bear don't.

I've never hunted a bear, but I've sure baited them. Not exactly intentially, as my "suppers"are meant for the deer ! I know a lot about black bears, as they roammy property. learning more about them every day, and just might have to hunt one. Why not? No bull, had a youngster cut across the front of the truck earlier today. I never understand these type of threads. If baiting bear is legal in your state, what's wrong with it? Here in Virginia, the only reason baiting isn't allowed, is because the population in the east has only recently started to recover. East of the Blue Ridge, only in the last couple years havemany counties opened up a bear season at all. Neighbors dropped a couple last year, only because between them and us, we were leaving deer gut piles everywhere. They were baited in my opinion. So really, here it's not a double standard to allow deer feeding (baiting), but not bear baiting (feeding). That's why I love the Griz hunters. THEY ARE THE BAIT! Balls! To answer somebody's question earlier, no dogs allowed for bears here.

from what I have noticed deer have a home range and bear don't.
I disagree. Got one bedded on my property. Don't know for how long, as my sheperd has run it up twice in the last month. Seen the same four over and over (minus two now) within a 3 mile stretch of road. Had one visit my yard at the other house every Mid April to late May (full foliage end of May, didn't need the trash and bird feeders anymore), like clockwork.

Wow! Does it help when you wear carbon clothing while baiting either dear or bear? I am willing to try new things all the time.
