Me.....I saw ONE buck in each of the last two seasons (1 in '06 and 1 in '07) bigger than this one.

Would this make a difference in whether or not you would take this buck, or not (If you hunted in such an area)?

For S's and G's.....how many bucks have you taken (with your bow) bigger than this one (score-wise).

I will see anywhere from 6-10 deer larger than that a year on stand, some much larger. Getting them within bow range is a different story.

I would say I see 7-10 bigger, and15-20 equal to it.

I hunt alot of areas...

...where a deer like that would get killed by most.

For S's & G's. Every buck I've taken w/ my bow is bigger than that one. Its just the way I've hunted, by the time I got into bowhunting (age 16, I was into trophey management)...

On stand while bowhunting seriously... 0 with shot oppertunity. 1 that would run pretty close with no shot.

On average I probably see 3-5 bucks bigger than that one in a given season.

I have killed 7 bigger than that one.

Yes, if I weren't seeing any bigger than that ever, it would change whether or not I would take a buck with a rack that size.

If that was all I was seeing I would either hunt other places or would not even consider Trophy hunting.

I Love to Hunt Big Black Bears and have killed several Nice ones, but I didn't kill them in Southern IL.[8D]

There really is nothing wrong with just Deer hunting although when I do I tend to be a Doe Killer. I just can't bring myself to shoot the little Dinks.

How many have I killed bigger than the one in the picture? I'm honestly not sure, but I know it is several;)

last year i passed on 35 bucks exactly that were bigger than that(i keep a journal)

Last year I saw8-12 bucks that were bigger than that one. (I dont do journals) I saw around 40 bucks sitting on stand (on two different properties), and I have taken 8 deer that are bigger than that one with a bow (score wise)

I've haven't had a shot opportunity with a bow on a deer that big.

I've seen a 2 this year bigger than him. I saw 1 maybe 3 bigger than him last season (all at once) but they were 100yds off. I don't count those.

The buck I killed with a muzzleloader 2 years ago, is a shooter at my house, public land and anywhere else I hunt at except for my buddies land. My buddies land, is where I saw the bucks last year. So I hold a higher expectation.

Realistically, had I had a bow in my hand when this buck came by, he would have been dead either way. I had just decided to take my muzzleloader for the first time of the year. (it was rifle season).

This year, the bow might get used everytime out, unless I go to public land during rifle.

I would need to know for sure myself and hunt that area for many years before I could give an honest opinion. If I wasn't hunting on my land and didn't care much on what I was shooting I'd shoot that buck. If I was on a out of state hunt and didn't care much either I'd shoot that buck. It depends where I am. But in my woods definitely no.

In "93" I hunted a county that is not known for big deer. From Oct. 1st to Dec 22nd, I hadseen about 10 or 15 bucks, none bigger than that one. After logging over 350 hours on stand, I shot this one on Dec. 23rd. So....noI stillwouldn't shot.

I don't know specifically for last year, but in general I would say a dozen or so. The thing is though, I runs several trailcams most of the year and I know what is around. There are plenty of does, and hogs, and whatever to shoot. When I go for bucks it is on my terms, meaning I will wait for what I want, even if I go without.

Obviously my expectations could change up or down, depending on my area/opportunities. It would be tough to trade down though.:D

Last year I saw about 14-18 bigger than that from stand.
TYPICALLY thoughI only see about 10 or so bigger than that.
I've killed 11 bucks with a bow bigger than him.
And yes, dependant on what I saw (or knew was around) would affect what I would shoot.

I have killed 5 bucks bigger than this with the bow.
I would shoot him if I was on certain property and I was getting ready to eat tag soup.
But that's if I have not killed at least a doe.

That buck would be border line legal here in most of Pa, and not legal in a few WMU's.Those brow tines would have to be 1" or longer for him to be legal, and that's where he'd be questionable either way.
To answer the question though, I see several bigger than him each year, but getting a shot at them is another story.

I saw 3 bigger than him in IL last year....None in MS..

I typically see 2-3 deer bigger than that per year....

With a longbow I would kill him, compound, no....

I've killed 3 bigger and passed a dozen or so that size and up...

Last year I saw one spike the day after the season closed. I didn't bow hunt as much as usual but I did go. I hunted the muzzleloader season and the firearms season. No bucks. This year I've driven back roads night after night. I've seen 5. 2 of the big ones I've seen multiple times..... and so has everyone else.[&:]

I see 8-10 bucks bigger than this one on average each year when I hunt Illlinois and usually 4-5 bucks bigger than this in GA!

I have shot 14 bucks bigger than this one, only two of those were with a bow.

Where I hunt, we are not allowed to shoot a deer this young and immature. It would be frowned upon unless it's a kids first deer or something like that!

On an average year, I'd see 4-5 deer from the stand definitively bigger than that one. Maybe50% would present a shot opportunity.

Taken6 for sure bigger. 2 within inches. And passed 75+ bigger. (In 9 years of bowhunting.)

I've often wondered.....because I used to live there....and knew plenty of guys who deer hunted.....

Are all of these sightings from SC? THAT would be an anomoly (your experiences) UNLESS you were part of a GREAT lease/GREAT farm with a GREAT management record.

I've only hunted SC in 06" and 07". I did not fill a tag in 06" although I actually saw more shooter bucks than I did in 07". I was just fortunate enough to be in the right spot at the right time in 07". But I can't take credit, being I was on a friends property, in a stand that he hung, killing a deer that he scouted. To answer your question; the vast majority of my sightings where/are in KY. I'd guess 85-90% in the bluegrass state over the past 2 years.

Me ,my wife and dad went to kentucky last year for the first week of november. I seen more bucks in a week there than I did the whole season here.

I typically see 5-10 bigger than that if I only hunt Arkansas and I typically see 20-50 bigger than that in 1 week of hunting Illinois. I have probably killed 20 bigger than that.

In general, if you are proud of him shoot him!!! If its' the 3rd biggest deer and you're proud, go for it!!! I support you 100%.

Personally though, I tend to shoot bucks that are the result of a significant effort or experience, something that makes that animal stand out in my mind and his memory lasts my lifetime. Part of that might be the size, but part of it also might be the effort or methods, etc. I haven't shot a buck since 2005 as a result. I shoot does for meat!!!

I may shoot a 110" deer this year in GA and it will probably be packed with alot of effort on my part.

On the other hand, most folks who have hunted IL for example, would not consider a 110" buck a significant effort. So you as a result look for something better, say 130" or so.

In short, if you want to shoot him, that's great! I'm all for it! I have reached the point where I would not, unless of course I am hungry!!! I also imagine that if I were in an area that I only saw one buck like that per year, I would probably shoot too. But I would be looking for a new area or working harder on my hunting skills!!!

Formula.....this buck isn't from my woods....as he was just for reference. I agree with your post 100%.....until you got to the highlighted part. Then I had to wonder how that would help (they're either THERE....or they AREN'T).
