I don't really see how you lied to him, you just did not tell him that it was public land (sounds like he could have seen for himself), and agreed that it was hard to find hunting land.
Maybe he was pulling your leg a little bit.....maybe you will see him out there come deer season.

I would have told the guy the land was there to hunt. Who knows maybe he would have gently pushed the deer to you on his way in to hunt. An old man...... may have been the last deer he shot.[&o]
Hunters helping hunter right. Its a deer on public land...... there are lots. If he did end up shooting the buck I would help him drag itout, shake his hand and sayNice buck. Thats just me though.

Bad karma is a *****! Ya never know that "old man" might of taught you a thing or two, I love helping out the old timers and listening to their stories!! Hell I love helping all kinds of hunter out!
