RE: How do you get your deer into the truck bed
ORIGINAL: gamespooker If I'm by myself (which i usually am) i get the head, or antlers up on the tailgate. then while holding the deers head or front feet on the tailgate i wiggle my way onto the tailgate as well. once you are in the truck and have a hold of the deer it is much easier to slide them on up. The adrenaline of loading a nice buck helps too. I have had to drive back to the house and get the tractor before, in that case i just slide them on the mower. |

I like to pull the deer on top of a hump and back up to it. Then I just grab the deer by the horns and pull him in. It helps to put a rope on its horns so you can lift the horns up and get ahold of them.
I am not a big strong guy. I weigh 165#. The last deer I loaded this way weighed 175#. I have loaded deer over 200# this way. As long as you can get good traction it works great. |
RE: How do you get your deer into the truck bed
I've had that problem many times due to the cap on the bed of my truck which precludes me from standing up and heaving him/her in. This year I purchased a $15 hoist from Gander Mountain. I plan to hook one end to the front tie-downs in my truck bed and yank that rascal up in there. The one I bought has a 3:1 ratio with a locking mechanism.

Pulley attached to front tie down, Rope tied to tree run through the pulley to a "sled". Deer on sled with the front ofthe sledon the tailgate, start pulling away and the sled slides up into the bed.

If I was by myself on our farm, I wouldwalk back and get the 4 wheeler or mule. If I was at our other property I think I would be fine getting the buck in back of the truck by myself but I honestly never had to load a buck or deer alone.

I use a 2x6 piece of 3/4 plywood (truck bed is 6ft) thatI lay on the tailgate, put the deer on, then lift and slide. Works for me.

RE: How do you get your deer into the truck bed
Usually have help so it isn't too much of an issue. We use four wheelers to take them out of the woods so once they are on the four wheeler rack, sliding them up into the bed of the truck is pretty easy. I personally think getting them on the four wheeler is harder then getting them into the back of the truck, but then again only drive a ranger and i still have a pretty young back haha.

RE: How do you get your deer into the truck bed
I usualy pull it up by the horns .
If I have my 4 wheeler I,ll sometimes leave it on the rack and drive up into the truck . If I can pull it on the 4 wheeler rack I,ll winch it up into a tree and drive under it then let it down on the rack of the 4 wheeler ...:D |
RE: How do you get your deer into the truck bed
By myself i usually lay the head just under the tail gate, get in the bed and reach down and pull the rack and the front legs over the edge. once there i can usually slide it in the rest of the way. yours is a good idea ;)
