How far do you walk?
 

How far do you walk to get to your stands? I park in a farm yard and walk from 100 yards to a 1/4 mile. Depending on which stand. So in your opinions how long should that take to walk? Being sneaky and so forth. I think I walk too fast cause I'm worried about spooking deer and I want to get in and let things calm down.

I would say for most all hunts it is about the same as you. I do have one spot that is like 3/4 mile straight up the mountain. When I used to smoke, it was a really killer, now its just killer.[8D]

Anywhere from 1/4 mile to 3/4 mile

I generally walk about the same distances as you sometimes a little farther.

I always approach my stand as if I am still hunting (unless it's dark) Also take into account where the deer are and which way the wind will be moving any scent I am giving off.

I sometimes lengthen my approach either because of the wind or just trying to be less visible.

Sometimes I go deep sometimes I don't! Either way I go straight to my stand without messing around! I don't like to waste time getting there, I bee-line it and get on stand! I'm hunting that stand for a reason and I want to get there and get set up quickly!

I walk about a 1mile to most of my stands. I have a couple that are notmuch of a walk, 1/2 mile. Then I have a couple others that are little over 3 miles, I usually hunt all day at this locations.

Mostly less than a quarter mile for bow season,

Sometimes i could walk 2 or 3 miles for gun if im hunting state land

I'm also probably anywhere between 1/4 and 3/4 mile depending on which stand I hunt.

I hunt our Farm that is around 105 Acres,I'm thinking the farthest point I have to walk is around 1/4 mile?Some of my stands are closer and depending on how much time I have to hunt I will sit in a closer stand if time is short or I walk the bottom field and sneak up the back way to my ladder stand over-looking the big open CRP field with the food plots in it.If we have anything planted in the bottom fields (turnips,winter wheat etc..) I like to walk along the openfield edge next to the woods and slip into my climbing stand or walk the upper open Ridge Field and slip in from the back side down through the woods to my climber!I like to change off how I go to my stands or I use the same route and put a drag line on my leg with some scent on it to get the Bucks to follow my scent trail!

If I'm hunting our Lease Property we have over 350 acres to hunt and there are all kinds of steep hollers,big hills and area's I haven't even got to scout or check out yet because it is spread out so dang far...must be or feels like 2-3 miles scattered over some really big woods! [&:] ;)

600 yards plus to all my stands, I hunt about 2 1/2 miles (as the crow flies) from camp but I park in a spot that leaves me at least 600yds from any stand I hunt. I also have a couple stands thatI walk to from camp that are the farthest, at least 800yds from camp, these are all rocky hilly climbs too (makes it fun):D...

I have to work around of locked gates. I ride my bike alot. Most spots I hunt that are worthwhile have me walking/riding around 3/4th-1 mile.

gri22ly---find a used mountain bike in the newspaper. It is one of my best tools. Just figure out how to package your stuff up and you will be set. I strap all my stuff to my portable climber. Just dress light so as to avoid overheating and you are all set.

I wondered how a bike would work. Going in the dark I'd probably clothesline myself from a tree limb or hit a log and flip over the handle bars. Not a bad suggestion for evening hunts though.

Maybe get a bow pack andfabricate an aluminum frame for my stand, or just hunt from lock on's. How do you pack your stuff?

I use my portable climber. I then take all my clothes and ratchet strap them to my climber. After that, I place my bow on top of my clothes (so to pad the bow) and then strap it down with a ratchet strap or a bungee cord. I make it all nice and tight so nothing clings or bangs. It really is not that hard once you figure out what you want to bring in, then just package it all up tightly.

If you have a portable climber, most of them have backpack straps. If yours does not, then you can make backpack straps out of about any type of fabric or ratchet straps.

i usually walk as it seems most everyone else walks. 1/4 to a mile to get to different stand sites

I'm guessing my walk to my stand is about 1/2 mile. It takes about 20 mins and it's across flat ground most of the way.

Most of our stands are about 1 mile walks but we have 2 that are about 1/2 mile walks but then we still hunt to kinda say. We always have twoof us with all of the camera equipment and bows a hunting stuff not much hunting going on when were walking.. Walt

It depends on where I am hunting, if I am in the western portion of NC it is generally a 1-3 mile hike plus all of the still hunting in and through the area that I do. If it is in the eastern portion of the state it could be anywhere from 100 yards to 2 miles plus all of the still hunting.

When I hunt in Missouri I have two spots one is about 3/4 mile and the other is around 200 yrds.

In Arkansas I hunt two spots they are both under 100 yrds. I know that sounds close but it is the way the land is layed out and the deer don't seem to mind, I guess because you can't see the truck from the stand.

When I hunt in PA its only normall 1/4 - 1/2 mile at the most. When I hunt in MD is almost 2miles!!!! This year I believe Ill be taking my quad down to least get me half way there. Specially early season when its hot.

Closest stand is over .5mi. Furthest stand is about .9mi.

I have a spot I drive to that sees me walk about .25mi. or less.

This year......I'll have the walks, above......and some the same distance (no more).....but I'll have to drive to get to these spots.

closest stand to where I park at one far is 1/4 mile most are between 3/4 and 1.5 miles I love getting back in and away from every one.
