How do you explain archery to a know it all?

I work with a guy, and he is planning on buying a crossbow this year, (he has a bow an older Mathews MQ32 which he says shoots 335 fps, atleast thats what the pawn shop told him, I said "I dont think so" and he said "oh yeah its really fast"). Anyway, we got to talking about broadheads and he was telling me he is gonna shoot mechanicals (which is fine with me I dont care what he shoots) because he never could get fixed heads to fly right. I tried to explain to him that trying to use mechanicals as a band aid to cover up poorly tuned bowonly hurts you. I told him to make sure everything was tuned right before he tried mechanicals. he says "oh they tuned my bow and sighted it in for me when I bought it" ( in 2003 ).I tried to explain to him that a mechanical has to hit a deer square for optimal performance, not at an angle due to a wobbly arrow. He then proceeds to tell me he shot a deer quarting away before and never had a problem, thats when I saidI dont think you are getting whatI am talking about. I try to help out but man, he wasnt hearing me at all.

This is also guy that I had to explain to last year that deer hunting with a gobbler guillotine was a bad idea and he couldnt understand why. Hmmmm But he knows everything....

PS. Sorry guysI had to vent.....

There's a few "know it alls" around every where. They are a pain to deal with.

Quit helping him.

Its hard not to try to help when you hear someone talking so crazy. He said he was thinking about selling his bow for 500 dollars last year and i wa slike dude you are never gonna get that. He said oh yeah, its a mathews,I said unless there are 2 of you, you are never gonna sell it for that. I dotn try to act like I know everything but when I hear of somebody doing something wrong I try to help them. ahhhh I guess I will leave him alone..

First of all.....make sure you know more (about the pertinent subject matter at hand)than the person you're trying to teach;)

Sounds like you've got one of the old schoolers on your hands that doesn't appreciate the fact that they can still learn things.

These types are fun to play with. Back 'em into a corner with their own words and false information.....and laugh at 'em. Don't be surprised if the guy backlashes at you and personally insults you, though. It's a common defense mechanism.;)

Good luck with your new project!

I know exactly where your coming from. I've seen it on here to many times and I find myself bickering with someone because there off in never never land about some topic that I know I'm spot on with. It don't pay though, I've got to teach myself that as well.

I don't mind ignorant people, but refusing to learn is just stupid.

he's legally hunting right, who are you to tell him anything ?

Thunderheads NEVER flew on my bows like my field point , on any of them, and all of them were well tuned
Shoot expandables quartering away is fine - if it wasn't why the hell are they legal then?
maybe he shoots 85 pounds of pull and a 325 arrow to get 335 on that MQ32 ?

sounds like to me YOU'RE the one trying to tell him everything !
