Why does everyone buy a new bow every year?
 

I have been slaying deer with my '05 Hoyt Viper, but read about people on here selling '07's to buy an '08. I dont get it. Is the general concensus that you want a newer bow because it wil make you shoot better or faster, or was it you had bad success with your prior bow.

Besides shooting 3D or in tournaments, and looking for extra speed, or a morepimped out bow, what was wrong with the bow you may have had last year, or the year before, ect.

Im perfectly content with my '05 Hoyt, and wouldnt trade it for the world (unless I had an extra $1500 to spend on a new set-up)

Do the people here that are always getting the newest thing out expect them to be a better hunting bow, or for the speed and accuracy in indoor shooting tournaments?

If money was no object I'd buy TWO new bows every year.

I love bows, and I love trying new things when it comes to archery. My bow is two years old now and I'm starting to get antsy.

I absolutely LOVED my current bow until I shot the 08 Bowtechs. I sort of wish I hadn't done that.....

makes no sence to me .

I just bought a 07 new in the box Browning Mirage for $300 shipped about a month ago , the bow I had befor it was a 97 or 98 FeatherMax and was sill a great bow when I sold it , I just wanted a shorter ATA bow for hunting out of a blind with. I would emagin I will have this one for Quite some time also as it is a dead ringer , Super Bow.

Do you think the new 08 bowtechs have a better chance at killing a deer than my 3 yr old Hoyt? Or do they just feel better, and look newer?

Viper I used to do this when I shot for some local shos but I was getting them at really good deals and could sell my old ones for more than I could buy a new one for. I haven't done this since 2000...I shot the same two bows for over 6 years until this year. This year I just wanted a new bow and had the means this year, there was nothing wrong with the bows, in fact two of my buddies bought the bows and are shooting them this year....

I'm with ya on this one Viper. Even if I did have $1500 to spend on a new setup, why do it when you got one that kills deer? People are gonna wish they hadn't been spendin money left and right when this country goes to hell in a few years, that's another issue though. I like my '06 Parker Hornet, won't buy a new one til she decides to break on me. No sense in wasting money that could be saved or spent on something more important. But hey, if they wanna blow some cash it aint my deal, go right ahead, but like you said Viper, their setup aint gonna give them a better chance at killing a deer.

I agree I do it because I can. I've always bought a new bow every year, and sometimes more than one. I can get a decent price out of my year old bow and therefore it has never cost me a bunch to move up.

Archery is my main Hobby so most of my play money has always went that direction.

Why get a New Bow every year?

Why Not!!!;)

I bought a new bow because the 05 Switchback I had was too short of a draw length for me. Yes, I killed deer with it but my form was suffering and I was somewhat inconsistent. I sold that bow and got a brand new 07 Commander for less than what I sold the Switchback for! :eek:

Do I think it will make me a better hunter? NO
Did I get it because I wanted a "pimped out" bow? NO

I got it because I needed it.

A Timex keeps time as well as a Rolex. Yet....the man wearing the Rolex has a pride of ownership that ONLY HE needs to justify with himself and HIS financial situation.

It's always amazed me that anyone else CARES;)

your 05 Hoyt is no better than my 08 Ally for hunting. They bow will get the same result if shot placement is good. with that said, my Ally maybe smoother and have less hand shock, lighter etc... that's it.

My new Commander has the right DL for me unlike my Switchback had. Will it make me a better hunter? NO Will it make me a better shot? YEP!

I don't buy a new one each year because I cannot justify spending $500 or more on a bow. Call me paranoid but I always think something might happen in my life where I might need that $500 on something more important. That being said, if you can and want to buy a new bow each year, then go for it!

I bought a PSE in about 1993 and another PSE in 2001. I am thinking about getting a new bow .... a new X-Force SS in 2008..... but I have not done it yet.

I think I buy or trade for a used one every year. :DIn my case, it is much better to stick with one main bow. But, I just can help myself sometimes. [&:]

To me it is like "I gotta keep up with the Jones'". No reason to buy a new bow every year. If you are still under the new toy mentality, I say something else in your priority list is probably lacking. Something that could be better. jmho

I understand why people do it - it's the American way.

Personally, I'm building a house and money is tight, so I spent my hunting wad on upgrades to my bow - new
arrows, quiver, bh's, stabilizer, rest, etc. That seemed to be a good coping technique to resist the urge
to buy a new rig. ;)

To be fair, I used to get one or two new bows per year back in the mid-'90s. I was a staff shooter for a major bow company back then and bows were making progress by leaps and bounds. Then there became kind of a lull where the mfg.'s were hell bent on sacrificing smoothness and reliability for speed. I'm glad I kept two of my favorite boes for hunting. I just haven't found anything that I like better than what I presently have.

Are you implying my Hoyt is a Timex and yours is a Rolex? Accesories are simple to buy. I can get a $200 sight, top of the line rest, best strings, and a good tuning job and still split your arrows in half. I understand that some of us have the cash to spend, but I also read of guys not getting their wives a bow, or a diamond, or their kid a bow. I believe that, as I said in my post...even if I did have the extra $1500 I would. Only if I could justify purchasing a new bow that does things that my bow doesnt.

If it shoots good grouping, fits your hand, kills deer, etc., I would only be buying a new bow to make my hunting better, easier, and faster fps. Mine does what it needs to...knock on wood!

I do envy those who just "can", but if that was my reasoning I would spend the money fo a trophy hunt using the bow that I know.

As I have said in all of my posts, I signed the waiver of its JMHO. No offense to others, just trying to make sense of someone claiming they have two or three or four bows. These people obviously have sponsors, or work for an archery dealer, or have friends to give them the wholesale cost.

I'm saying that what one man chooses to spend his hard earned money on is of NO business to anyone but that man, his family and his conscience.

If he can afford to buy (__________) and wants it.....it's sorta (understatement) nobody else's business.

I wasn't talking about your 3 year old Hoyt. I was talking about my 2 year old Pearson. I love my bow, but I like the draw cycle on the 101st Airborne better. My hybrid cam Pearson feels a little "spongy" at full draw. I like the crisp draw and solid back wall of the newer Bowtechs. That's why I WANT one. But my money situation dictates that I'll have to wait another year or two. I'm still shooting a great bow - I just know there's a bow out there that I would like even better than the one I have. That's all I'm sayin'.;)

I dont want the wife to run out of things to complain about. Got to keep her on her toes ;)Plus if I dont use up the play money she will on shoes,clothes, or meaningless weekend getaways for us with her friends that I dont really like anyway. Never killed any deer with a shoe, So i buy a new bow and new set-up. :D

I had to buy a new bow last year because someone apparently liked my old bow better than I did and stole it. I uess I could have used one of my other 6 bows but oh well I wanted a new bow.The same question could be ask about guns too. Why buy more than 1 gun?? I say why not???

I can too but I don't have to have the newest anquickest bow that comes out every year. Oh yea an the lightest arrow so it will shoot fast.

Matter a fact just put my third set of cables an string on mine Tuesday.

I dont think it has anything to do withabeing a better hunter or having a better chance of killing a deer.

Mobow has said it on here before. Alot of people on this site are fanatics, die hard fans of the sports.

Why do you need an '05 Hoyt? Why not a '65 Kodiak?;)

I buy a new one every 3 years, dont know why, I guess it is the consumer in me, need bigger, badder, better..or in the case of a bow, smaller, lighter and faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About the only thing I buy "new" is underware![8D]I buy used vehicles, used bows, used guns, etc. Maybe it's the conservative side of me, but I just can't convence myself to buy the newest latest and greatest "things" to hit the market. More power to those that can and do, but there's plenty of us that can "get'er done" with the hand me downs. Might have something to do with me being the youngest of 6!:D

1987- Golden Eagle Talon Predator
1995- Hoyt Raider
1997- High Country Extreme
2002- Parker Hunter- Mag
2007- PSE X Force
2008- Bowtech Alligence

I would have kept the X Force, but I just could not shoot that good with it. I will probably hold on to this Ally for atleast 3or 4 yrs if not more.

Buying a new bow everyyear don't make you a fanatic of bow-hunting, it makes you .....just anotherhunterwho likes to have the newest and coolest "gear". Somebody that checks themselves outin the mirror before they hit the woods, make sure they look "cool".I'm a "turkey"-a-holic, but I don't buy the baddest gun and calls each year.....probably because my 870 SPS-T and one mouth call get the job done, no need to waste any more money. Some people just like a lot of toys I guess, and that's understandable,I just like being in the woods and slayin animals. I'd like to know if all these folks actually use every single thing they buy, not talkin about bows, but other "gear". And I'd love to see a picture of em walking through the woods packed down for a "Three Hour Tour". Anyways, tomorrow I'm takin some of my hard-earned money and buyin a case of beer to drink while I'm on the river fishing with a 10 dollar rig and a tube of crickets. No expensive gear, just cheap light beer. Ahhhh the simple life. God Bless America!

Man, for a minute there I was lookin around to find the hidden camera you put in my house. Thought you were talkin right to me, haha, wow. I understand that too, but it don't cost too much money to do those, especially to cuss like a sailor. A new bow is waaaaay more than a case of beer and a bar tab for a pretty lady.
