I just wonder how many here put more stock in the info they get, one over the other. I have seen threads on here (I think I even started one) about who you trust as authorities on whitetail hunting. Some (a lot) of the magazine writers are not very trusted. How do you feel about the DVD folks? Do you think they know their stuff? Do you trust everything you read?

I, for one, am not much on either. I see the same old BS every magazine article. It just rotates from one writer to the next year after year. About the only thing I have gotten from DVD's is the Wensel Brothers, Blood Brothers, Primos, and the Drury "Hang to Kill" video. Other than these, it seems a waste of time, (other than entertainment) money, and can get your thinking totally screwed up if you listen to everything and believe it. jmho

To me they are all the same ... even on here ...one does this, the other does that, .... so I do with one what I do with them all ... make mental notes and try this or that and see what works for where I huint and the style I hunt ...

Yeah...I don't take any stock in those type of magazines or dvd's, however I feel you can pick through it all and find a couple things that might actually work for you, like PT said, That even goes for here...I tend to look more for studies of deer behavior and some QDMA materials to learn from rather than the strategic magazines and dvd's... I have learned more on this site than out of the magazines and dvd's, I look at the shows and what not more as entertainment as well...

So far LT these 2 are by far my favorite's when it comes to watching hunting video's. I've learned allot more from watching these 2 then most of the other ones put together. I've been watching the Wensel Bros for 20 years or so, they know there stuff and I love there style. I think the Blood Bros will be just as good, excellent teachers In giving there info but even better hunters. I'm not big on reading magazine articles, they really bore me and allot of them seem to me there wantabee outdoor writers. Don't get me wrong, not all writers are like that but more and more every year are printing articles that just blow me away. A few of those not so good articles have been displayed on here and its funny how everyone thinks every thing that they read in a magazine is gospel! Some video's are that way too so one really has to watch out for that as well. I like more action so I'll pick up a video every now and then.

I just think too much stock is placed in people who are only repeating what they have heard or read. I for one really enjoy videos that teach or show me something new or different approaches. That Blood Bro. video is awesome in my opinion. These guys know how to hunt and use other hunters to their advantage. I will be employing some of their strategies in my way of hunting around here.

I also think too much debate brings more ignorance than knowledge.

Honestly.. there probably isn't a single big name outdoor writer and DVD pro in the modern deerhunting world I haven't learned something from. And I learn something new from beginners all the time.

I'm not afraid to listen.

I've been saying it for years.. the problem between the "pro's" and the public is simply lost in translation.

Now.. I will agree many article's are just re-written.. but in different words. And I will agree that many of the DVD guys are just normal hunters who shouldn't be teaching anyone anything.

But thats neither here nor there. Your job is to decipher the good advice from the bad. It's kinda like life really.

Would it not be easier though Duke if the writers/Dvd guys, all knew what they were talking about before trying to teach us (general public). That is like saying we are going to public school and we will only listen to and learn from the teachers we think know what they are talking about. People who are good teachers are those who teach from experience and show how "hands-on". jmho

I agree with you LT but i also agree with duke. You gotta pick through what you think is valuable and what is garbage. I watch the videos for entertainment. I personally like the Monster Bucks series due to they shoot big deer and i like the group of guys. Havnt really learned anything from them but i do watch the deer and how the deer react. I really only watch the videos in the summer to scratch my itch if you know what i mean. Got 1 month till i can go shoot some honkers. 2 months till i pick up my bow though. [:@]

But the idea behind capitalism is to make money. If joe shmo starts a business and makes video and sells them.. he likely has 1 thing on his mind.. money.

Last I checked.. in america you can do whatever you want. If the joe shmo wishes to be a "professional".. what's to stop him.

Are you saying we should have some sort of mandatory test on what one guy knows about hunting.. only after passing it.. he can be allowed to teach it?

It's america. I work in the HVAC business.. I have about 100 competitors.. most are terrible at there job.. but that's business as usual.

No different in the hunting industry.

Good old "this is America" excuse. I get so sick of that junk. Our schools are going down the tubes but it's still "this is America".

I understand what you are saying Duke. I really do. I just have to discipline myself all the time concerning who or what I learn from in the hunting world. If you are not careful (young people) someone will always be there to feed you a good pile of BS.
