Default Using dogs to track game question?

I will make a long story short, we had a lab for 13 years that was part of the family and when he passed earlier this year my oldest has been wearing me out about a new dog. Well last month I bought the family a new dog, a mini daschund pup, my question is would this dog make a good tracking dog? I have heard that the breed makes good tracking dogs but I am unsure of the mini breed...

If this is a possibility, any ideas on where to start with this dog? If not this info will not be needed....

Curts, brother...a mini dachshund?? Please turn in your man card!

I'm sure any dog could be a great tracking dog if trained right. How do you do that you ask? I have no idea!

PM Rob, he has a wire haired daschound I believe, that seems to know what he's doing. He can prolly tell you a few pointers on the training.

Send Rob/PA a PM. He has a long haired daschund (I think it has a mullet, actually), tracking dog.

Errt, John was right above you, I have a Wired Haired Dachshund.

Dachshunds make incredible tracking dogs as they have incredible noses on them. The first place I would look is John Jeanenne's book, Tracking Dogs for finding Wounded Deer. http://www.born-to-track.com/book/order-info.htm

Also, this is a great place to learn. http://www.unitedbloodtrackers.org/

There are also many sites on the internet regarding blood tracking dogs.
