The blades deploy rear-ward making them fold OUT wider than the given cutting diameter before protruding into the cavity and folding Back or settling into the 1.5 inch cut sustainded by energy.

Ill add by saying, look at a pic of a rage fully deployed, notice the blades are angle rear-ward, but when it first comes into contact with target, the blades cut into target at almost perfectly vertical state.
I see! thanks for explaining that to me you smart young adult!:D Sorry couldn't help it.

RE: Mechanicals heads?

I've killed 16 deer with various mechanical heads. If my wife's 40# bow can shoot a 1'' fixed head through a deer, I'm only going to shoot the same head deeper into the dirt on the other side of a deer. Since I have plenty of KE I might as well put it to use inside the deer with a larger diameter head.

Ok for ease of figuring we will say you are using a 1.5" 2 blade broadhead.

I am using a 1 1/8" 4 blade head. If you make a (quote) marginal hit then you have 5/16" reach on me from center of the arrow shaft. You think that's a make or break advantage?

I am cutting with 4 blades, but yet you feel you are getting more damage?

I can relate to what you are saying about theslits being 2.5" to 3" I swear some of the holes I've knocked through animals with these little 4 blade 1 1/8" heads are quite a bit bigger than 1 1/8" and they do that locked in place.

I imagine cuts like that are due more to hide and meat stretching as it cuts and popping open, but then what do I know I'm just a Bowhunter;)

You talk about some holes!! Biggest holes I ever made were by a Rocket Mini Blaster 4L. 4 Blades 1 3/4" cut!! Those were some holes, but they were pretty much a one shot head. This year I'm uppin to the Grizz Trick. That's 4 blades 1 1/4" cut.

I expect a pretty nice hole;)

I know, we'll compare holes in our Pronghorn over a few cold ones. :D

Oh, and Pronghorn don't break their horns do they? [8D]

What I dont get is, and guys Im not against either, but I have yet to see a hole from a fixed blade even somewhat compare to that of the rage/snyper design.

Dont get me wrong, Ill have a Striker tipping my arrow this year too, but Im just saying, those heads do some damage. I like the looks of tricks too, but ive already got 6 strikers waiting on some hide, and i cant see a big enough difference between a striker and trick to even bother with them, plus the striker has a coc bone crusher.

RE: Mechanicals heads?

1 1/8" fixed blade headsleave really poor blood trails...

(This was what the trail looked like all the way to the deer...)

Washington State game regulations do not allow the use of mechanical broadheads, so I have absolutely zero personal experience with them. I have no problem with someone shooting a mechanical broadhead out of a well tuned bow - if what they're looking for is a larger cutting diameter. However, what I do have a problem with is someone using a mechanical broadhead to compensate for piss poor tuning. With the broadheads available on the market today, there is no excuse for poor fixed blade broadhead flight. Laziness should not be your excuse for using a mechanical broadhead.
