Ok I just measured a Rage head:

The fully deployed and locked position is exactly 2" in width

The blades laid out horizontally at their greatest reach is 2-9/16"

That is a picture of a rocky Mt. "Snyper" not a Rage.

1/2" wider then the Snyper then. Wow, that is wide.

Yep it sure is.........should I shoot one at a deer from my 62# Black widow and see if it completely upsets the balance of nature and causes the end of the world as we all know it?
LOL:D

It might just be like matter meeting anti-matter and destroy the earth if it actually works.;)

I’m just trying to understand why people put themselves through unnecessary troubles with mechanical broad heads.

concentrate on those things that work for you.

This is the reason for having soo many different products on the shelf. We all have preferences and choices that we like or dislike. we are all allowed to have reasons and biased opinions for why we do things the way we do. I shoot fixed blades at the moment because I can't afford new heads and i know the old NAP thunderheads work.

I'd love to hear about it Matt! It wouldn't surprise me if you got good penetration. I'm thinking I could shoot them with my set up but I won't.

Do it Matt!!!

I would bet EITHER of us could probably use that head with our recurve set ups.........don't dare me! LOL:D

Throw a 50gr brass weight behind it and I'd have a 150gr Rage 2 blade. Oh what would people say!?
What's next, dogs and cats living together!?[:-]:D

The same could be said for fixed blades...poor down range accuracy, planing, smaller cutting diameter, etc, etc.

Bottomline, stop trying to understand why other people do things and concentrate on those things that work for you. If fixed blades work, by all means use them. If they give you the confidence to get the job done, then brilliant! Obviously, I gather fromthe quote above, you have already made up your mind as to which type of broadhead you're using. Go with that decision and grow.

On the other hand, I will gladly show you photograph after photograph of all the problems I've had with mechanicals...they seem to be stacking up.

Matt and TFOX, I like your responses.

Great post. I personally use Muzzy 3-Blade 125gr.They work for me because of my setup. ,27inch Aluminum 2215's with a finished weight of approx 485-490gr. 27.25 Draw Length @ 62lbs.
