Rage Shooters

Here is where I had an issue with fixed blades. I grabbed an arrow out of my quiver only to find that nut that holds the blades in place had come loose and one of my blades fell out. It was a failure on my part to check it out before I left, but the point is still the same. When I go to the tree stand with my rage heads, I pull them out and check them to make sure they are seated and then put them back in the quiver careful not to push them in to open the blades.

Amen!!! I have never understood the logic of usingmechanicals. If it only fails one time, then that is one time too many. There are have been many horror stories about these broadheads,so there must be some validity to the failure stories.
I've never had one issue of taking a deer with a good fixed broadhead.(KISS) Keep It Simple Stupid. [:-]

Some of these folkssay when you take it out of the quiver you need to check the blades? How about shootin' a fixed blade Thunderhead, Stinger,Snuffer, or any fixed blade for that matter, that you NEVER have to check to make sure it will shoot right. I don't want to have to check my dad gum blades when I take em outta the quiver, that's just a waste of time and money, and maybe a waste of a shot at a trophy buck. Say you shoot at a buck and miss, (even the best miss every now and then, Jordan did it on a DVD), then you have to quickly pull another arrow to try and get another shot if possible.......are you gonna have time to look at the blade and check to see if it's still in tact? NO. If you would just shoot a fixed blade and stop giving your money to RAGE, you wouldn't have to worry about whether or not your blade is gonna open or not.The less mechanics involved, the less that can go wrong. I won't be checkin any of my broadheads right outta the quiver this year, I willknow that they're gonna fly just like I want em to.

The part in the red is what I don't want. IF that were to happen in the woods, and I've heard it from A LOT of people, it could very well cost you. Good point about the screw on the broadhead, but how many times have you heard somebody tell a horror story about a fixed blade being unscrewed when you're about to shoot it? Not too often. That can be prevented well ahead of time, before you even pack your stuff for the next morning. The Rage can open up at anytime if you're not too careful. I don't wanna have to be careful, I just wanna pull it outta the quiver as quick as I may need to, nock it up, and let if fly.
You CAn make them about as foolproof as any other mechanical head out there with about 1 minute of modfication ahead of time.
Just take a dremel tool and with the cutting blade attachment cut a shallow notch at the top of the blade shoulders on each side. Then simply take one of those little dental rubber bands that they use on rocket heads, or Snypers etc and slip it over the tip and into the notches.
Now you can't bump the blades open, they won't be so worrisome and it it no way affects the performance.
Rage tried to do away with the rubber bands used on Snypers as a "convenience" but IMO it caused the head to suffer a bit because as it is out the package it IS a touchy thing.
The reason that people have flocked to the Rage vs the Snyper isn't the fact that it doesn't have a rubber band retention.....it's because it's 2" in cutting diameter. THAT is the reason for its popularity, so all it takes is a 1 minute fix and you can make it as RELIABLE as a Snyper too.

Last year I used the two blade. Buck came in after I grunted at him. Shot him at 22 yards. Found him 70 yards from the treestand. I didn't find a lot of blood because it wasn't a pass through.
I will for surely be using a rage two blade again this year.
