How about this ambush spot.
I have been scouting alot around a large lake this year and have three great "watering hole" type ambush spots. The first pic leads down to the second pic. On the top right of the hill on the first pic, the cover gets very thick and is very hard to get through, except one small 20 yard wide break in the cover....and guess what, that break leads right into the ravine and down to the second pic. The third pic is an example of 8-10 rubs I found in and around this spot.
I have a few ideas on how to hunt these spots...1) hot weather 2) chasing phase when the bucks are thirsty. It might be hit or miss thing but it may pay off big! Anyone have any comments or suggestions on how to this type of spot. ![]() |

Looks pretty darn good to me Virginia....I too found a water hole that I will be setting up on this year. I am hunting west Texas and it stays hot until mid November, there is not much water in this region so I was figuring finding a natural live spring was a great situation to be in....Good luck with it V....

Thanks Texas, it will be interesting to see comes down to drink. I will have to put a submerged crocodile bite on them!

RE: How about this ambush spot.
Hard to tell from those pictures Virginia, why dont you send me those GPS Cords and ill let you know in December if that would have been a good place for you to have hunted. .......... I have scouted and area similar to yours but the water source seems to be more of a run off than a pond or lake but i saw a few deer in the morning and lots of tracks around it. It has been rainy here in michigan so i hope come Oct 1 the pool is still open.

I would recommend a waterproof box blind that you could submerge 3/4ths under water. You couldsit in there at eye level and wait for the perfect shot. It could double as a duck blind.

I like that funnel under the fallen tree. Looks like you could just sit on the ground on top of those cliff edges. Nice spot!
