Do you hunt field edges and if so how successful are you with bigger bucks doing this?? I usually never hunt field edges for big bucks, but I see it on TV so it has me wondering if anyone does it in real life on here.

I hunt field edges when possible, the issue is depending on the amount of pressure the bigger bucks will not show until the last few moments of daylight - for pure deer sightings you cannot beat a field edge for larger bucks your best bet is to observe the field see where he is coming from, and then go back off from that trail probably75-100 yards and hunt him, typically they have staging areas..... locate one of these and your money

During the rut - everything changes and field edges can and have produced decent bucks for me

Only time I'll hunt the field edges is for doe's and doe fawns (meat hunting) if I have another tag, we usually get just one tag. The only other time I would hunt a field edge is if I was hunting a small narrow tree line that the bucks frequently travel.

I spend 90% of my hunting time from Opening day in Sept-Mid Oct hunting field edges, have seen many great bucks but never shot one.

I have had success hunting field edges quite a bit, especially with a decoy durring the rut. Usually secluded fields that are close to big buck travel corridors and bedding areas where you can pull them out with rattling and grunting.

Also, if they are using the field as a food source i have had good luck. Early season clover/alflafa or late season standing beans or foodplots...

Jeff thanks for posting that, be specific in what is in the field, Alfalfa, soybeans, peanuts, clover etc.. I know that for big bucks it's best to stay off the edge, I have done this for years, but I have places that the fields are not in th open so to speak, they are back in the woods or land locked. what about this type of field?? or should I just forget the fields all together and stick to acorns come Oct??

The fields were rotation crop
soybeans, Milo, corn, and this year peanuts

The buck sightings have been better when there was standing corn, same reasoning the seclusion factor

Typically I've always hunted about 50-75 inside the woods from the edge. This early season now that I'm actually able to hunt my farm, I plan on setting up in a couple of the field corners in early season. As the deer come out later in the evening I plan on adjusting my stands in accordingly. I went and glassed the field last week and saw 20 deer in less than 2 hours...with 4-5 that I know where bucks. Time to do some nanny whacking!!

I think Hunsucker was reffering to stuff like this. I would think it would be totally different then a regular field and could be very successful. Corn/sorghum and alfalfa have always been my favorite crops to hunt on field edges.
