If I can get high enough I like to hunt the field edge but typically have found that the bucks will travel the trail in the woods that parallels the filed line and the does will tend to meander more freely in the field. Also if you can hunt a dip in the filed and stay on the high side you will greatly improve your chances at a reclusive buck.

The only time I hunt fields are to use them as a funnel (generally inside corners). That, and in the late season (w/ bow or ML) if a food source still exists.

I used to hunt fields as food sources but never had any luck with large bucks there. I perfer to get back in the woods, partly because everyone else locally does not.

I love hunting field edge's come the rut. A good shelled corn field, the does are coming to it in the evenings to feed, Mr. Horny is coming to it to check out all the does, one well placed arrow and the job is done. It has to be the "right" field. I like smaller, seculded fields the best and if there is a bedding area close by, even better.

Eh, when I do hunt a "field" I am typically 20-25 yds inside the edge and can rarely shoot out into it. During the pre-rut & rut last year, my Dad crushed me in numbers of nice buck sightings as he hunted field edges & I was deeper in the woods. Neither of us had any shots though. The field was oriented such that it was VERY difficult to pinpoint where they were entering. They would alwasy be well into the field when he saw them.

I hunt about 10 yards off the field. The farmer usually plants soybeansor corn along the woodline I hunt. I find during the rut thereis a lot for activity along the tree line.I always end up with one or two chances at buck in the 125 to 150" inch area a year. The problem is I'm usually after a certain couple big bucks andend up with tag soup.:(
