Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
No really, what does this map say to you? To me, it says there has been couple of entries from my county over an entire decade. That means maybe an entry into the record books every 5 years or so over the entire 230,000 acres it ecompasses....hahahahahahaha! Trying to take a monster buck is like finding a needle in a haystack here in Prince William County, Virginia...hahahahaha!

So, that's over a 10 year span? So a county that has, let's say 30, averages only 3/year.....That seems skewed....What I mean is, how many P & Y's are shot and not recorded I wonder??

RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
Doesn't saymuch tome. A lot of people around here get their bucks mounted and thats it. Ive seen plenty of book bucks that are not in the books.
I wonder why theres such a huge difference in Wisconsin and the Michigan U.P.? |

My dad has 1 B&C, 3 P&Y on his wall from the last 6 or 7 seasons and hasn't entered a single one. I know plenty of others . . they just couldn't care less about being on the books.

Not really happy what this tells me about the 500 private acres I have in WV. Really makes me want to reconsider making the 8 hour drive out several times this year to hunt.

WOW!
look at all of wisconsin! |
RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
21-40 from my county...which is predominantly gun hunters. I'm willing to bet over 50 deer are gunshot each year that are between 125 and 160...making them excluded.

RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
If I mentioned I saw a 150 inch P&Y to hunters around here, they wouldn't know what I'm talking about. When theres a book buck killed here, it has less of a chance to get entered. So i do think the numbers on that map for my area is inconsistant with whats actually killed. Of course the other states do have better potential than us, I'm in no way arguing that.

RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
This map tells me squat! I hunt in Crawford County IL. and it says there has only been 21-50 P&Y deer killed in that time span. LMAO! My cousin is a big taxidermist in that county and he probably gets over 75 P&Y deer a year. Tells me that we are trying to keep our little secret and not entering them. I know I haven't entered the three I been blessed enough to harvest.

RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
Im in Edgar Co., IL (The real, real deep red :Din central, IL right on the curve on the IL/IN border). It show's our number being high, but Im with everyone else: I saw countless bucks last season that got killed and were never entered.
Most people just don't do it...atleast from what I know of around here we don't... |

RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
That map tells me one thing...... that EVERYONE should head to WISCONSIN to bowhunt! Why take the chance to hunt here in IL when all the bucks arte clearly hiding in WI.
|
RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
NO NO NO just means we killed them all and more need to be shot in Illinois.:)

That map tells me the county (Delaware) I spend most of my time hunting, is one of only two in Pa that has 51 or more P&Y bucks in the books. I guess I dohave a chance after all.;)

RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
Looking at the two counties that I regularly hunt and seeing so few entries confirms what I have suspected for a while and echoed by others as well. Not many people bother to enter their deer in either of these two club's records.
I can only assume that this low participation level is consistent throughout the country. If so, then the map is still accurate from a relativity/comparison perspective. |

RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
My county says 4-10. But i know for a fact that alot of big bucks are not entered and alot more get gun killed. Heck my cousin has 3 on his wall that would qualify that are not entered.
Very interesting map though. |

It means Oklahoma has some catching up to do.[:o]

RE: Decipher the map, win a prize! (P and Y map 1996-2005)
There are countless numbers of B&C and P&Y deer that are just not entered on purpose and some not really caring about score ! I hunt in southeast Oklahoma and lots of hunters around here are more concerned about the weight of the deer than the score ! I personally have been in several homes and saw 6 at one house and several more at others that were 160 class deer . Its probably better that some of our states and counties are overlooked or more hunters with more money than us would be hunting instead of us! ;)
