My turn to put one out for the record. It is not quite correct that a crossbow is held and shot like a rifle. Since the crossbow is far older than firearms, by some 1,600 years as far as is currently known, it's the reverse. A rifle is held and shot like a crossbow. :) In fact, early gunmakers stole the idea of stocks and, later, triggers from crossbows in order to improve their guns.

Gus, I dont care what they shoot, I just care what season they shoot it in, and have never looked down my nose at any one for shooting one.
Why? Are you really that selfish to want to keep people out of the woods for your own agendas? So you are saying we should have a season for compound, traditional and then crossbow? LOL:D

I have had this discussion with BigJohn and several others befor and the bottom line is, it is shot like a gun, not like a bow, and no one on here is going to change that!
what about the the effective range? the fact it uses limbs and a string to propel an aarow(bolt). Side by side it's more similar with a bow than a gun, but you are still hung up on how it's held...........LOL[&:]

In fact the entire state of Illinois considers them archery tackle...
As does the Archery Trade Association, National Archery Association and IBO.
This should put it to rest........

I still owe you Arthur for the whole "chicken or the egg" example though.:D:D

Edit: You can add in the NFAS (National Field Archery Society) as well.;)

This is true and I love the history you bring up Arthur,but I like eggs for breakfast and fried chicken for dinner and never really concerned myself much with the question of which came first, the chicken or the egg!

Yes, in the eyes of traditional hunters, a compound could be considered a 'cheater' bow as I have stated. I have no problem with them thinking of me that way if they so choose. One of my friends I hunt with shoots traditional gear and I used to myself. I'm not going to anymore as age has caught up with me.

So what happens if everyone relents and says that Crossbows should have their own season ??? Like highlighted above ...... except the powers that be make it Crossbow FIRST .... then maybe 2 weeks later the other archery stuff can join in..... I bet the folks would get to squirming then.

Fact is that the argument is an individual adgenda..... for folks that want it all to themselves .... first...
