Flashlight, knife, bow hook, food/drink, grunt tube, maybe a book if it is a long sit.

Things I'd add to what others have saidare:
1)a haul-up rope/string 2) reflective trail markers if I'm going in/out in the dark 3) extra batteries for my flashlight, just in case |

To preface this, I'm a planner at heart. ;)Oh.. and I hunt deep in thick woods.
My backpack para cord binos range finder knife flashlight back-up flashlight protein bars survival book lighter windproof matches batteries bleat call bottle to pee in first aid kit gloves mask poncho compass radio wind indicator scent free bug spray glock model 30 with ccw permit hmmm.. I know I have more than that, but that is all I can think of right now. |

I'm gonna bet there's a direct correlation of how much gear you take to stand and how said decreases with age.

I've used a backpack, but I've found if I take my butt pad off of my tat'r turkey vest then I have all seperate pockets to put things in for more convinience.
