I'm one of 20 that lease two different tracts totaling about 1000 acres. We kick off the season with the traditional Dove hunt the first week in Sept, bow hunt from mid Sept to mid October, rifle hunt from mid Oct till the day after thanksgiving and then hunt with dogs from the end of Nov through January 1. We also have some quail, small game, and predators.
I had hunting public land all my life. However,I started taking my sons hunting when they were 6 & 8 and the public land in NC was over crowded. ON public land, you don't know who you're hunting with.

I'm a member of the HNI hunting club. The guys I hang with there are mostly bowhunters, which is great because I bowhunt exclusively. It's a really great place to meet other hunters, young and old, from all over!!

I belong to one. I hunt deer with bow and rifle and turkey with shotgun. the main reason i am a member is for more places to hunt. they have pretty good rules as far as keeping a good deer heard, so there are good opertunities to takenice bucks. I also like being around the guys during rifle season, witch is like a holiday around here. Also, there are not many bowhunters in the club, so me and my brother pretty much have run of the property during bow season.

I'm a member of an archery club and a conservation club. I am also a member of the NRA (although I do not shoot guns very much at all). Our archery club owns 44 acres that can be hunted. I usually just hunt there though if I'm alone and don't feel like driving very far, maybe once or twice a season. The main reason I belong it to be around other archers and to have access to a beautiful 3-d course and a very nice elevated platform, it's a great place for my son and I to practice. Our club is I beleive is 60% traditional and 40% compound. I hardly ever see the compound guys around though.

My dad has been hunting a piece of property for the last 20 years. The property is owned by AEP Ohio (American Electric Power) and they leased the property to a beef farmerwho then let them hunt. About 13 years ago AEP found out and told us that we could start a club and lease the 2400 acres and pay a certain amount of money every 12 months. It's been good since we have started the club. I have metsome great hunters and some that I just turn and walk away from with some of their stories
. I think thereare 13 members of our club with only 5 or 6 that bow hunt. In case the lease ever falls through, we do have many other farms to hunt.

The clubs around my hometown must be different than many as the club actually owns the land in most cases. I'm in a small but good club. We own 300 acres between 15 of us. We bought the thing about 10 years ago for $8000.00/each. Now I wouldn't sell for less than $50K
. Makes it nice when you know all the other hunters in your area.
At most there are usually only half dozen people out there (including guests). Many times my best hunting bud and me have the place to ourselves.
I usually only gun hunt there as it is now two hours from where I live and I've got access to better bowhunting properties closer to home.
