True or False...
Pick one.

RE: True or False...
I no longer hunt in my county. The question is moot. Now the county where I'll be hunting this year? I'd be pissed. The landowner is a gun only hunter. he'd sell the place if he couldn't hunt it and I'd be stuck out again!
|
RE: True or False...
Honestly I wouldn’t like it if my county was bow only. (actually either of the 2 counties I predominantly hunt) There are already too many deer as it is, they could never kill enough by making it bow only.
If they did make it bow only, they better implement HUGE incentives to shoot does. The season would have to run September 1 thru the end of January non-stop. I still don’t think they could kill enough deer. |
RE: True or False...
I voted thrilled, but at the same time I know some hunters that can't get out to really bow-hunt. But at the same time there are so many "gun-hunters" that don't need to be afield, if you know what I mean.
|
RE: True or False...
Honestly? The land I am able to hunt IS a de-facto "bow only" area....as the landowners woudn't dream of letting me hunt there with a gun.
In reality....if my county went to bow-only.....it would only enhance my hunting. I have no problem in believing that. Would there be consequences? Sure. What I'm finding out though......is nature is a pretty good regulator of deer herds. It might not be "pretty".....but she'd do her job. I witness her doing just that.....every year, here. |

RE: True or False...
I would not be happy if that happened.
some but not all of the Reasons.............. It's easier for kids to gun hunt when getting started. It helps keep the older folks in the field longer. I like killing deer with my 30.06 :D Tradition I enjoy the holiday that is "Gun Season" It's easier..........not a bad thing I like to hear the soud of guns being fired in Nov. Something different. |
RE: True or False...
In NJ when shotgun starts, the deer become something else. Keen to every slightest motion you make....while before the guns start going off, they're none the wiser and you could probably be talking to yourself and they'd still approach you.....it'd be pretty nice to have the clueless deer all year long.
|
RE: True or False...
It's a tie so far:D
I will not vote, because it's a double edge sword. We could not kill enough animals with bow and arrow. Hell in most states we cannot to it with guns[&:] In about five years the population would be out of control and all the deer would be dead:(or sick |
RE: True or False...
It's been years since I deer hunted with a firearm, but I still want the option. Where I hunt it's only bow, shotgun or muzzleloader and that's already too much restriction.
|
RE: True or False...
I think a lot of people voting FOR the bow only, would severely change their minds once they saw the deer numbers explode far out of control and then CRASH.
|
RE: True or False...
I live and hunt in one of the bow-only counties here in IL and I like it for one reason only - I can continue bowhunting while it is gun season everywhere else. If they would open the entire state up for bowhunting during gun season, I would be a happy man.
At the end of the day we're all here to kill deer, whether it be by gun, bow, or whatever other legal means you may find. Closing counties for gun hunting only does one thing, which is create too many deer like rybo and Germsaid. I'm not a selfish hunter, I want people to kill enough deer to maintain a healthy population. And if that means I don't see as many deer or that big buck I"m chasing gets whacked by another hunter, then so be it. |
RE: True or False...
CRASH I asked the above question with complete sincerity. What does "crash" entail? If they would open the entire state up for bowhunting during gun season, I would be a happy man. |
RE: True or False...
I live in a bow only county and drive 4 hours to hunt where the PA orange army marches. [8D]

RE: True or False...
See, I don't buy the population explosionargument one bit.
The only areas that will be overpopulated will be the areas with limited access (city suburbs and POSTED land). These are areas thatALREADY allow gun season, and are STILL overpopulated. It's not a question of weapon efficacy - the problem is land access and low hunter presence. Hunters just can't kill what they can't access. Classic case would be the proverbial "city deer." If the population densities do get too high, you'll see more MV collisions and more willingness to welcome bowhunters into areas where the deer are actually becoming a major problem. There are already tons of bow-only areas throughout the US and Canada, and none of them have any overpopulation problems that didn't predate the bow-only designation. I can say with 100% confidence that my area has enough bowhunters to drive deer into extinction. While eliminating gun season would help get the deer densities back into their normal limits, it would certainly not put us at risk of being overrun by starving deer. So what's the moral of this story? Are we saying that bow-only zones should only be implemented in areas of the country that are thick with bowhunters, so as to ensure that the deer populations don't explode? |
RE: True or False...
My State dont have counties, we have parishes, haha anyways it would bother me because I like to have the option to take my rifle..
|
RE: True or False...
Even though I haven't gun hunted in years and do not have a desire to do so, I would not be happy with this type of intrusion unless there is a good reason such as safety concerns in a populated area.
Would I benefit with more mature deer still running around? Probably, but that is not the real issue. The real issue comes down to individual freedom and rights and while I don't want to gun hunt my neighbor doesn't want to bowhunt. That should be his choice to make, not someone else or the government making it for him. |
RE: True or False...
North Carolina -
NO SUNDAY HUNTING Most municipalities do not allow hunting within the city limits There's been a trend towards municipalities allowing hunting within the city limits, as of this past deer season (we now have a small handful allowing this - Bow only) in an urban archery scenario (extended season). This is another way to fight the population issue. Allow Sunday hunting.... When the number of vehicle accidents (and insurance claims initiated by said) reach a certainpoint.....we're going to see the insurance company lobbyists itching to opening up hunting seasons/areas in record time. We just (obviously) haven't reached that point, here. Whether they open it up or not, though......rest assured...more deer will die (either via hunter or car). We've already relaxed bag limits on does to the tune of.......Icould kill approx. 200/yr legally. I haven't seen the revised figures on the harvests ('06 v. '07) to know how well that is working out, though. Just some random thoughts.... |

RE: True or False...
My place is on the county line so go ahead make my county bow only, I'll just walk a couple hundred yards and be in the next county.
|
RE: True or False...
....I would be happy with sunday hunting!:D....I don't see it coming anytime soon.

RE: True or False...
Ask a wisconsinite how well an Earn-a-Buck program works in keeping deer populations down. :)
Sorry Fletch, but I don't buy it one bit. With liberal bag limits and seasons - and an Earn-A-Buck system as a LAST RESORT, there's NO reason that any area should ever become overpopulated, even if it is bow-only. Iowa didn't get to be overpopulated because it was bow-only. It got to be overpopulated because nobody wanted to shoot any does. Gun or bow. Iowa isn't exactly thick with hunters, either. Under 400,000. That's peanuts. |
RE: True or False...
If this thread does not point out the blatant failure of Americas public education systemnothing ever will.
This is America you are free to go buy your own land and use what ever you see fit, bows, guns or naked with a stick. But quit trying to ban others from doing the same. |

Actually, Bawana, it just proves that 61% of the people polled - agree with me. :)

RE: True or False...
Quick's way of thinking is obviously popular (based on the poll). I'm interested in learning why it WOULDN'T work. I'm not in favor of all guns seasons being banned (nothing against gun hunting whatsoever)....but it would be interesting to know why it works in some areas.....and why (factually) it WOULDN'T work in others.

RE: True or False...
I would like to see bow limits increase and a revolving gun season once ever two years state wide...and of course sunday hunting;)....just my thoughts

RE: True or False...
Selfishness pretty much describes it.
Second of all gun hunters out number bow hunters many times over ,so I guess inthis democracy we would all be as understanding when they beat us to the punch and banned bow hunting ,which with their over whelming numbers is a more likely scenario.[:-] |

RE: True or False...
Jim- for about five years in a row now, I've shot a pretty decent deer here in PA under the antler restrictions, and the emotion of it all was just too much for my fragile heart to handle. Ijust sat down and cried like a baby...
Just thinking back at all those poor, oppressed spike slayers who had to pass up thisbuck the year before. . .Then my mind turns to the evil governmentthat's stripped them of their hunting rights, chipping away at the very fabric of American freedom - leaving themdowntrodden and emotionally fractured. But the American Spirit lives on, with their meager lives in shambles, shells of their former-selves, they take to the woods every year and try to make it happen, in spite of the long odds and governmental oppression. Poor souls. My heart goes out. I cry. Honestly. I can barely live with myself. |

And....if it isn't for the sake of "safety" (in the example of urbanized areas).....how did they come to be? |
RE: True or False...
I am saying you have a very narrow outlook.Of course bow only areas are "limiting the rights" .How much more limiting can you get than a ban them?
Gun hunters are the majority every where. We need them to exist ourselves. We need thier money(Gram-Rudman) thier license dollars and most of all them politically. Why would you feel that banning some one else from doing what they love would be a good thing for you is beyond me. |
RE: True or False...
Why would you feel that banning some one else from doing what they love would be a good thing for you is beyond me. Person A is happy, because he would not enjoy being dead. Person B enjoys killing people, so heis sad. |
