I consider a fresh cooler of elk meat the bonus. I for one, will not eat anything else until its gone. It is by far one of the best game meats. I do prefer elk over deer meat, usually my deer meat gets turned into sausage and deer dogs. Elk meat is straight cut and hamburger.

Welcome to the forum. We drew tags in Wyoming last year, this year we're buying OTC tags in Colorado. I'm not expecting the trip to be like it was last year, but I still can't wait.

Thanks for the fast reply. I have tasted it and it was very tough to chew. I see you said straight elk but do you use spices?

I haven't elk hunted in 3 years now. Normally I go to Montana to the Livingsten area or to the Fort Peck area. Its addicting and a blast. Hopefully I can get back on out there in the near future.

Yep straight, no spices or sauce....I cook it on the grill. My techinque is this....I brown on both sides at about 400 degrees, shut down one side and then pull all the meat to that side letting it cook for about 45 minutes total....key is slow and low.

I have turned none game eating people into wanting to come down when I amd grillin' some elk now.

I have an opportunity to go to Colorado this September. Not sure if I am going. It would be a great trip though.
