Who DOESN"T live close to a hunting area?
Being a "city" guy, to hunt I have to wake up at 1:30A.M. then shower, get my stuff together and drive at least 2 hours, dress in the car and finally head into the woods. I'm not complaining but rather wondering how many other hunters do similar. At the age of 52 it's getting harder to do. My friends and wife think I'm nuts, but I love it!

about 3hrs from my deer spot....usually do the motel the night before, have done the driving in the am...but then you're falling asleep in the stand I find.....
it does get annoying, but they dont make closeby farms.....and I think once the cash comes...I'll still be doing the same thing, except staying at my own place on my own land.... |

RE: Who DOESN"T live close to a hunting area?
I live on Longisland.. and like the first two guys on this thread i drive at minimum 3 hours.. to state land.. and 5 hours to buddies property.. which sucks.. i close the Rest. i work at, at 1:30 am.. with car stocked and ready to go i take off, change in the car and go straight into the woods.. if im lucky i get an hour or 1/2 hour of wink in the car, but that never happens and i take mini 10 min naps on the tree stand.. either that.. or sit home .. so .. i do the all nighter thing.. and it aint as ez as it used to be.

Just a small slice of my back yard, the other 9.85 acres look similar. I can literally walk to several of my favorite blinds in minutes. [8D]

Downtown Chicago here, if I want to even think about hunting, it's an hour and a half to pheasant hunt public land. The only deer property I have access too is 5 hours away in Michigan. I would give my big toe for some hunting ground within an hour and a half of Chicago, but there is either not enough land, to tough to get permission or leases are way to expensive. Not much you can do![:@]

RE: Who DOESN"T live close to a hunting area?
i guess i could hunt closer to home if people weren't so greedy about their land. there are hunting clubs and large private farms all over the place where i live, but i don't belong to the clubs and wouldn't want to run dogs anyway, and the people that own the private farms either don't want people hunting or want it all to themselves (that's okay, i understand that it's their property and they want to enjoy it). so i have to drive 20 minutes to hunt a spot i have permission to hunt that has a few small deer, or i have to drive an hour to my cousin's and i can only do that a couple of times a year. it sucks but i love it, maybe one day i'll run into some money and land, or marry into it.

Have WMA hunting just up the road. But on Aug. 15th GUN season opens and all HELL breaks loose. Rifles and running dogs while using buck shot. Kinda hard to bow hunt in 95 deg. weather after all of that.[:@]

RE: Who DOESN"T live close to a hunting area?

RE: Who DOESN"T live close to a hunting area?
I'm lucky. I only have about 13 miles to drive to my main huntingspot. And about 1 mile to a small piece of private land that I hunt early in the season for doe.;)
