To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
Ok guys, I know all of us hunt in different regions with different genetics with different standards. I personally hunt in NW Missouri near the Iowa border. My good friend and hunting buddy sent me this pic explaining he would crap himself if he saw this. While I agree I think it is a neat thing to see four solid bucks walking together but I told him the only shooter (for us) should be the farthest back buck and that is only with a bow. My question to you fellow hunters is do you agree? I should mention that our goal is to only take bucks that will get us in Missouri Big Bucks, which is a 140 class deer. Its a little hard to tell if he would be but I would say he would be pushing it.
Edit: Sorry guys, I fixed the pic. Photobucket wasn't working at the time. ![]() |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
In WV I'd shoot any of the four.:D
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I'd have to see them a little better, but the 2 in the middle would be the only ones to get any consideration.
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I'd also shoot any of them.;)
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
All shooters.
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I would shoot any of them.

RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
i would not shoot a single one, personally my limit is 150 ,besides those deer are all young, think about shooting one in 2 years, he would be a giant P.S. what county do you hunt in? i hunt in daviess up there close to the border
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
ORIGINAL: txjourneyman All shooters. |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
For me, in GA they are all shooters!
In Illinois(i hunt there too), the one in the back and maybe even the one in front as I really like the spread on that one. However, on the last day of the hunt, they are all fair game! |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
From that picture/angle, none look like shooters....
Nice to see though, next year or the year after they woudl be HUGE! I don't see the point in taking one of them to put on the wall.....doesn't do it for me. If I want meat, take a doe. |

RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I am not sure if any of those guys would go 140. If that is your goal, this passing this year would be the best choice. As for me, I would look at the front right one pretty hard, good spread, but I would still like a better look at him. I would say for most people, all four are shooters. Just remember, it really does not matter what anyone on this board things. If you think it is good enough for you, take him, if not, let him walk. Your hunt, your choice!

RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
In Florida those deer would just about get you a parade down main street.
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
Any of those would meet my standards for my first buck with a bow this year....but in previous years and after I kill my first but with bow, only the middle two would be considered, meaning the closest and farthest one. That farthest buck wont make 140, no way IMO. But it is a heck of a deer that no doubt gets a shaft from my bow, any year.
So for this year, all4 are shooters. |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
The one in the back would definitely get it! The other three, imagine them in another 1-2 years! wow. That being said, any of those bucks are nice around where I hunt, although I would probably only take a shot at the back one and the one closest to us....
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
Them are some nice bucks. 3 out 4 would probably make P&Y. Like a few others have said shoot what makes you happy, don't try to impress anyone else! Do it for you.
Good luck with them. |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
Whack em' and stack em'.
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I would say the back one is definately close to 140. Hard to tell. Maybe with deductions he wouldn't but he would probably be my target. I should mention that these are not deer on my hunting land. This is just a pic I recieved this morning explaining he would crap himself if he saw these bucks together. We were talking QDMA and which ones were shooters. I thought the buck on the far right has a huge body with not much for head ware but give him a year or two and he wouldbe abull.Anyway, I was just curious of all you guys' input...thanks.

RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
As good as those racks look, last year they would have walked (in Northern MO). This year there should be alot more mass and any of them would get the shaft.

I passed around 6 bucks that size last year in IL. but ended up the year holding my IL. buck tag. I did have a close encounter with a super nice Buck but the shot just never presented itself. Bowhunting and what to shoot is a personal thing. I'd shake anybody's hand that took any of those bucks because if they are happy, I'm Happy for them!:D Dan |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I'd take any one of those deer--most likely theirsons too
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
They would all be great bucks where I hunt here in Pa, and I'd be happy to take any of them. That one in the back is the big boy in the group for sure. He looks right around 140". He wouldget mounted!;)
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
the first one that walked by me with my bow in my hands is goin down....
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
All 4 are respectable bucks for sure. Shoot what makes you happy.Me, I'd hold out for #4 . . . but Ilive in Ohio
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I'd take any of them if I were hunting in my home state of Michigan.
If I were hunting in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, or Iowa, I would take the big one and let the other three walk. |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I would shoot any one of the four, and I would be reloading to try for a second one. Where I hunt in Upstate NY any one of the four would win the big buck contest at my bow shop with room to spare. But I agree with the general consensus that you should shoot what makes you happy. God bless those of you that are disciplined enough to pass up bucks like these, I dunno how you do it haha
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
nice bucks Id consider all of em!!
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
At this point in my life I wouldn't touch the bow on the hanger for the front three, but I would ready it for the last one. He looks good at that angle but that could change when he turns his head.I sure would like to see a photo of them this year. [/align] |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I would shoot the buck in the back before any of them.
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
those are all nice bucks, espeacilly for my neck of the woods. It is very rare to see a buck of that size not to mention 4 together, but I would shoot any of the four unless I knew all four of them were in my hunting area, then I would shoot all but the front right deer and try to hunt one of the other three.
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
They all look good!
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?

RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
jeez.. u kiddin me? i think id s**t myself.. if i had an opportunity like that..
phhhtt........... id take any if i could.. |
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
I would shoot at all the deer, im not at the level where i can be "choosy" yet. That is my goal though.
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
They would all be shooters in my book. If the situation played out I would definately hold out for the buck in the back.
|
RE: To shoot or not to shoot...that is the question?
They would all get a pass.
Next year, is another story. All seem to be solid 2-3 yr olds. At 4.5 they are gettin' popped!:D |
