RE: What are the laws in your area about a bow in the truck?

I was coming home one night from town, I dont remember why but i had my bow laying in my back seat, arrows in quiver and uncased. I got pulled over for supposedly "riding the yellow line a little to hard"( there's a gard rail 1 foot of the road on the other side.... forgive me for staying closer to the center.) anyway... he looked in the back and seen my bow, and said... " You been doing any hunting?" i said yeh a little bit. He asked " any luck?" i said no not yet... he said "me either"

:D:D

here in IL, bow has to be cased, or locked.....of course in case you wanted to do a driveby with your bow....

so while in the car/transport it can't be functional....not sure if the case has to be locked....though I don't think it does, same with rifles, just has to be cased......or a zip tie on the strings or a lock....preventing it from being used....

How does this locked thing work in illinois? I may need to do that in order to come to the Coon creek thing

Indiana has no such law, though you may not have an arrow nocked to the string until you enter the woods. Locking bow case? How primative your laws are, you need to consider moving...

I'm glad I live in Texas! It's a bow for heavens sake,a firearm may be viewed different but a bow is not the most efficent tool for poaching and hope the LEO's understand that.We shoot jackrabbits year round and if they see a bow I think they will use some common sense...doesn't cost anything andI think our folks still have some.

michigan

A hunting license is not required while transporting a firearm en route to or from a target, trap or skeet range, or target shooting area and there is no attempt to take game.
At all times, rifles, shotguns, muzzleloading and other firearms and bows and arrows carried in or on any type of motor vehicle, including ORVs and snowmobiles, must be unloaded in both barrel and magazine, and either enclosed in a case, or unstrung, or carried in the trunk of a vehicle with a trunk. These rules apply whether your vehicle is parked, stopped, moving or is on private or public property. A firearm transported in a motor-propelled boat or sailboat must be unloaded in both barrel and magazine when the motor is operating or the boat is under sail and may not be loaded until the momentum of the boat has ceased. Firearms must be unloaded in the barrel, and all arrows must be in a quiver when a hunter is afield outside the legal hunting hours. Exception: These rules do not apply to pistols carried under authority of a concealed pistol license or properly carried under authority of a specific exception from the requirement of a concealed pistol license.
A percussion cap muzzleloading longarm is considered unloaded if the percussion cap is removed. A flintlock muzzleloading longarm is considered unloaded if the cock is left down and the pan is open. Black powder handguns must be transported as stated in the Statewide Handgun Regulations.

"Anyone have arrows in there quivers, according to Barney Fife, its carrying a weapon."

Well Barney would be SOL in California and Arizona...I have been stopped here in California with arrows in my quiver, never a problem. My neighbor is a CHP officer and he thinks Barney just has too much time on his hands!
