what are your chances??? For real??

What are your chances of killing a p&y deer this coming season? I would say mine are around 50-60% being that there are a few around me, but I just don't know if I can out smart them. It has not happened in 17 yrs of bowhunting, but I hope this yr changes that.

RE: what are your chances??? For real??

<25%. But if I was still hunting the properties I was last year....>50%. They are out there, just have to hunt where they are.

60-75% or more, i passed up at least 6 bucks that were at least 130 last year with a bow

RE: what are your chances??? For real??

I couldn't even venture a guess. I'll let you know at the end of summer. My hope is certainly that IF I kill one, that it would go P&Y. But I could get awfully itchy if a nice one but under the P&Y limit came by while I was holding my longbow. He could be in trouble.

I'm not sure. didn't get to shed-hunt and i've still got a lot of scouting to do so for argument's sake 10%

RE: what are your chances??? For real??

I'm going to go with a 30% chance of getting a P&Y. I guess I could answer this question better when Mid October rolls around so I can see what sign the bucks are leaving to gather a guesstimate on there size without seeing them. Last year I had 5 different P&Y bucks roaming my woods, I only knew of 4 before I seen mine and shot him. I felt pretty confident last year on getting a P&Y buck, the sign in my woods was the best I've seen in about 10 years.

50% to me is pretty high percentages on getting a P&Y buck. Most of the P&Y bucks in my woods are 4.5+, that makes it that much tougher. If I had more 3.5 P&Y bucks around I'd have many more on the wall. Most of my 3.5's are right at 125" give or take so theyget the pass unless there no doughters.

Considering I've never seen one......or heard of anyone near me killing one.....I'd say the chances are GREATER of me getting T-boned on the way home from work tomorrow by a submarine.

Well if yours are 50-60% then I'd say mine are nearly the same... although considering that you'll be deer hunting while I'm duck hunting I guess mine are 25-35%..... but I haven't shot a buck since I was in 9th grade... I lack patience I suppose....

RE: what are your chances??? For real??

Slim to none...:D:DIn over 40 years of deer hunting I don't believe I have ever seen more than 5-6 max, had a great chance of taking one with my '83 Grand Wagoneer back in the 90s, but I passed...

Thefunny thing is, doesn't bother me one bit, I just love being out there...I will say that the odds of me taking a few does is very good!!!

The lord might take me home tomorrow but if he lets me hunt I will kill a buck that will net over 125. I guess that would be 100%. I'll seeyou guys on the contest scorecard this fall.

RE: what are your chances??? For real??

yeh I said 50-60% but this for a 125" buck, anything more maybe a stretch, not b/c they are not here, just not good/smart enough to get it done. Im just speaking the truth, there will need to be some luck involved and a few blessings sent!!

BowHuntingFool 06-12-2008 05:50 PM

RE: what are your chances??? For real??

I have a great chance every year at seeing big bruiser bucks, but getting them in shooting distance is another story! I had my chance last season at a buck of a lifetime and choked on the shot, to low! Good times!

I don't care how good of a hunter you are a person always needs a little luck to go there way. Notice that I said a little luck and not allot of luck as some people on here think its allot of luck. You make your own luck people!

My biggest problem/issue is getting them with in range for my recurve. I see P&Y bucks every year but usually there just a tad out of range. I have to get better at stand placement but at the same time there's only so many tree's I can put a stand in. Its hindered me all to long and its frustrating as hell!

22.2%

If it wasn't for my Montana trip it'd be 5.55%.

It's possible anywhere (that there are white tailed deer). 0% chance isn't even realistic.

RE: what are your chances??? For real??

In GA, chances are slim to none.

In Illinois where I hunt, very high I do believe. I've had P&Y bucks in range the last two years, just couldn't quite close the deal right so I didn't shoot. This year instead of the usual 6 day bowhunt, I'll be there (Lord willing that it) at least 15 days bowhunting.

I also plan to hunt 7 days of muzzleloader, too, but that don't count for P&Y.

My chances are low since I don't give a flip about killing one. It's not about that for me .....

Odds are 100% that I'll see one or more, happens every year. . . but I still haven't sealed the deal. I got a shot last year but it ended with a deflect [:@].I'd say 50% but I feel like this is my year so let'scall it70% [:-]

I believe I have a lot in common with Gmatt on this one.The hudson valley of NYS is not exactly a big buck mecca.

RE: what are your chances??? For real??

33.33% chance of me killing a P&Y this year.Seeing 4 different P&Y's on our farm in MO last yearplus the lease I have in IL should yield pretty good oddsfor a chance at one or two.

No way! it's all about location[:-], P&Y don't cross below a certain latitude. This is known fact.[8D]

What about a P&Y Bear? Will that 300+ lber make it?:);)

100%, got him tied to a big ole' oak in the woods right now. Seriously, if I put the time in that I am planning 50 to 60% chance, maybe a little better.
