Has anyone been charged by a whitetail buck

Just wondering how rare my encounter was.believe it or not i was charged by a buck.

this is a really funny story that when told in full has some huge lessons. what do you guys think.
it was my first buck. i made a bad shot(1st mistake i should have calmed myself down before the shot) on it and after tracking it for a couple of hours (2nd mistake is that we were pushing him)we ended up in a corn field. my brother in law and i came within two corn rows before we realized we were right on top of him. [:-] i had forgot my bow which was my (3rd mistake). well i slipped out and left him there to watch the deer as i ran back to my stand. 1/4 mile away then 1/4 mile back. when i got back i was dead because i ran. (4th mistake). i could not pull my bow back so i handed it off to my brother in law as the deer stood up. he pulled back as the buck began to lower his head. he released just as the buck charged. he hit the buck in the eye socket and because he was turning it glanced off the bone and buried under the skin. i am convinced that the arrow breaking as he came after uswas the only thing that stopped him. he came after us for 3 rows then turned and ran away. needless to say we did not stop running... we were scared to death. i learned alot from my first buck. many, many lessons.

anyone else have a interesting story to share

i was trying to leave the woods one time and i kept bumping a 2 year old buck further and further on the way out. finaly i came around the last corner to the field and there he stood 10 yards away... he lowered his rack to tell me to back off, so i took a couple of steps back. then he slowly walked down to the river, i followed cause that was my way out too, he stood and watched me for a while and then crossed the river to feed on corn so i followed him across the river and we parted ways from there. it was just before the rut so he had a different attitude than normal.

I've never been charged by a deer, but I have been by big big Texas pig.

It was one of my first, a cool calm drizzly Februaryday in South Central Texas. I saw a lone boar about 200 yards in a grass field and began the sneak. I belly crawled through the "mud, and the blood and the sweat in my eyes" and would peak up every now and then. I couldn't find him and knew that I had to be close. I looked to my left and there he was, about 20 yards broadside feed parallel to me. I sat on my knees and watched him for a few seconds and then decided I was going to get closer (stupid). Anyway, I crawl up to within 15 yards and come to full draw on my knees, settle the pin and let it go. The arrow drills him right behind the should and lodges in the off side shoulder blade. This is wear it got wild... the pig turns and runs straight to me, stops at 4 yards with my arrow sticking out of his side. I'm pretty sure that I peed my pants but not positive because my pants were wet from belly crawling. He stood there for what seemed like a decade before leaving. I was shaking so bad I couldn't get an arrow out of my quiver. But I survived and I still stalk pigs to close distance on the ground... call me stupid but it sure is fun.

Awesome story's everyone! I've had young bucks come running up to me at night during the rut while walking out thinking I was a doe I'm guessing. They would get with in 10 yards and stop and then turn around and run and snort for the next 10 minutes.

A few years ago, during the rut, I was driving out my driveway on my way to a place I hunt regularly. As I crested a small knoll, I saw a big buck standing in my driveway. He started a slow trot away from me - for about 20 yards. THEN, he stops, turns around, lowers his head and charged my truck! This was a 3/4 ton extended cab full-size pick up. He was bluffing though because he veered slightly at the last second and glanced off the right front quarterpanel. I was glad I wasn't walking to one of my stands at home that morning with an enraged buck like that out there . . . in the dark . . . waiting for me!:D

Nothing with a bow, but the second buck I got with a rifle tried to gore me. I had dropped him with a spine shot and he rolled down the hill. I thought he was done but when I got to within 30 yards he pulled himself up on his front legs and started to front wheel drive it out of there. I was way too excited so I just pulled up and shot and blew his front leg off right below the knee. I ran up and pulled my knife to finish him, but he tried to gore me with his antlers. At this point I reminded him that I still had the rifle with a finishing shot to the vitals.

That was not my proudest moment as a hunter, but I respect that deer as the toughest damn buck I've ever encountered.

yes we went back out a couple of hours later. this time we were much more careful and finished off the tracking job. he only went about 40 more yards before expiring. and there i was with my first buck. not quite how i pictured it but still rewarding.

The only thing kind of close to these stories is a small buck that had been chased for over an hour by a big guy with a hot doe. I shot the big one, but the little guy wouldn't leave. I climbed the whole way down my tree, waved my arms, and finally had to holler to get him to go. He was only 10 yds away. & he still only moved a short distance farther away(40 yds). After getting help for the drag out, we kicked him out again when we returned.

Never charged but I have grunted in two young bucks to within 5 yards while I was on the ground, one was an eight pointer and the other a seven pointer. They were so enamored with the grunting I was doing,I would repeatedly grunt them back to me each time they went to walk away.
They looked very glassy eyed and confused,in hind sight probably not the smartest thing to do,but as long as they didn't lay their ears back I wasn't concerned.

My family usually goes camping in Ludington State Park every summer and one year while I was on a morning walk at the dam a young buck informed me thatI was in his territory by lowering his head and turning his ears back.I decided to walked backward tilI was back on the dam thenI turned and went back to camp.

I know a game warden who credits his kevlar vest with saving his life from a buck. The deer had been hit by a vehical and was injured badly on the side of the road. The warden came walking up and the deer half limped/drug itself down into the ditch near some woods. The warden went after the deer which caught him off guard with his back near a tree and basically pinned him to the tree. He is a rather big guy, and the points on the antlers did not make it through the vest, but he still broke a few ribs.

I met a guy in SC who had a buck in a high fence that he caught as a fawn. Deer was 4 years old when I saw him... and mean as a rattle snake. I turned my back near the fence and the deer charged the fence just like a damn bull... suprised me pretty good...glad they used good chain link fence. That was in mid September... so I guess his hormones were going already.

I had a small buck stare me down one early evening at the edge of a field. He started stomping his front left foot and charged for about 5 steps then turned and ran. Still scared me a little bit. I was only about 15 then.

I didnt' tell this story last year, but since the topic has come up I'll post it. It isn't exactly something to come home bragging about it, but it is actual events.

Opening day of gun season a friend of mine shot a high 140's buck. We were out on a little celebratory run that evening when we ran into a mutual friend. He was also celebrating. Said he had shot a nice buck that night. We asked him where it was, and he mentioned it was still in the woods. He figured it was gut shot, and had given it a few hours. After a short amount of convincing we decided to do a recovery.

There was five guys and one woman. Everyone had flashlights. One had a knife. Because it was after shooting hours, we knew we wouldn't be able to put the buck down with a gun if it were still alive. So after a short walk, the buck is spotted bedded down at a distance of only 25 yards, but completely alert. Not the smartest thing to do, but I moved in on the buck and grabbed the antlers. As he pushed me back, I sprawled and put his nose into the ground. My friend came in from the side and continued to stab the buck in the heart/lungs. The woman cried, the one guy got sick, another sat there with flashlight in hands, the hunter was elated, myself and my best friends high-fived for tackling this 150 class buck.

Here's the kicker. When I grabbed this deer by the horns I did so under the impression that it was on it's death bed after being gut shot. As it turns out, the buck was merely shot in the front elbows of both legs. The deer was nowhere near being on it's death bed. Kind of a cruel and weird story, but true nonetheless.
