Default How many does concieve annually?

I wonder how many does actually conceive and also deliver fawns on an annual basis? Anybody have any statistics on this? I am under the impression that every doe gets mated every year in most places. How many conceive and give birth is something I am not aware of.

?

Thanks. That is a very informative article. I would like to see statistics on how many does actually get bred annually. I wonder if many does go through a mating season not being bred?

I would think the only doe that didn't get bred is the one that didn't ovulate. Unless the doe to buck ratio is horribly lopsided, it's hard to believe a doe can go through a complete estrus cycle and not be noticed by any buck.

Here is a study by the Pa. Game Commision: http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/cwp/view.asp?a=465&q=151427&pp=12&n=1 The results they came up with was 9 out of 10 adult does and 1 out of 4 doe fawns were pregnant at the end of rut.

The PA report corresponds with what I thought statistically -ifa doe is putting out the scent she is going to be bred. I guess the question after that is conception and the mortality rate.It sounds likemost does bredconceive, butthebiggest factor in the fawns making it are based on the nutrition the mama does have accessto the winter and spring folllowing conception.
