I want to reconsider my answer due to the fact the airabove the land is a part of the land, soreaching your hand past the imaginary line which is perpendicular to the proprty line ..... it would be like walking onto his property ..... think about it guys .....

And that also goes for any land I might buy in the future.

This is the honest truth. I'd pick it up, and then see if I can find the landowner to talk to him/her about it. If I can't find the owner the shed goes home with me. If I see the landowner later I'll discuss it with them in conversation. If they have a problem with it, they can have the shed.
That also goes for a $50 bill, a cell phone, an I Pod, or whatever else I find. I try to find the owner with a reasonable amount of effort, or turn it in to a lost and found.
It seems that owning a piece of property seems to give some people a sense of entitlement that they can treat others like crap because the property is not theirs. There is something called being neighborly too. Sometimes showing some respect to those that don't own your property will go farther than posting the hell out of it and throwing every person off that strays over the line.

I don't consider sheds hunting, I don't need a permit for it or anything. So yes I would probably reach over and pick it up. I thought this was going to be about shooting a deer on the other side of the fence. That I would not do, but if I saw a shed with in reach I would probably grab it up.
That being said, if I knew the owners and knew this was something of interest to them I would probably take it to them and see if they wanted it. I would tell the truth, "I was walking the fence line and saw this sucker on your side of the fence, do you want it?".

While I don't know exactly what I would do and far to much has been made of this already Ihave a comment and a question.
My comment is that if I knew the adjoining landowner and I knew he was a hunter or had a child interested in hunting I would bring it to them and give it to them.I would imagine that most of us have a pretty good sense as to who's land we are walking next to and whether or not the owner hunts.
My question is does the property owner own the shed? They certainly don't own free ranging animals.Once the shed hit's the ground does it become their property? I honestly don't know.
So much of this stuff is circumstantial and involves common sense and decency. We don't own as much property as some of the weathy land baron's here but we have enough and it is located where there is regular and frequent use by deer, turkey's coyote's an occaisional bear etc.. If someone asked to walk our property to find shed's (good luck finding one in my area of the country) and I granted permission any shed's they found would be theirs. If someone was walking the property line and found a shed and reached over and grabbed it and came to ask me if they wanted it it would be theirs.Again so much of this in my mind is dependant upon the situation.

Stuff like this really depends on the specific situation. If i knew that the other property owner may be interested in shed hunting then i would leave it alone. But, if i don't know that, or i know that the guy doesn't give a crap about stuff like that, then i would likely pick it up.

How many of the people that would take an antler from someone elses property would shoot a monster buck that was just on the other side of the fence? By all the accounts so far, the guy doesnt "own" the deer....so why not shoot it and just reach over the fence and drag him to your side?
