Anyone Apply For There ILLINOIS NR Deer Tags?

Anyone apply yet for the NON-Resident ILLINOIS Archery Tags? I did yesterday

Matt / PA 06-02-2008 04:18 PM

RE: Anyone Apply For There ILLINOIS NR Deer Tags?

Yep , I just went ahead and rolled the dice and bought the license and habitat stamp now too. $473 later. [:-]

I'll wait till I get my tags, then purchase the hunting license and habit stamp

Matt, what county are you hunting in? Will you be with a outfitter? when will you be out there?

I'll be hunting in way southern IL (not sure of county)with Greg / MO again like we've done now for the last 2 years. (Gonna be the yearly ritual)
Depending on my job situation I might be out there the whole season. LOL :D
I think we're gonna try it a little earlier this year than the last 2. we hunt some public land and there is some other out of state pressure getting there before we do and messing things up a bit. We'll probably try the entire Pre-rut: Oct 25th or so until the end of the first week in NOV.
Right now I have a flexible schedule so we might get at it REAL hard depending upon if and when I need to get back to PA.

I took the plunge today!

Will be hunting in the same area as Matt and Greg apparently, though I'm sure not the same property. I will be in Union/Johnson counties.

At least I get one for half price this year too, being a non-res landowner.:)

Is it time? I'm hunting in Jo Davies and/or Carrol counties come Nov 10th. I'm waiting to hear from our guy when to submit.

Rob, if your hunting with an outfitter, I think he needs to apply for you. They allow a certain number of permits for outfitters only.

But yes it started June 1 and goes till the end of the month.

I was going to, but alas......I've decided that's just too much cash to dump on a deer tag...I just can't justify it. I surely was disappointed, I really wanted to this year, and a generous offer from a friend makes it even worse.....Wish I could, I just can't.

You're not kidding that one hurts.........Probably not quite as bad for you guys who at least live within sight of IL.
Poor Greg lives closer to Illinois than I do to my main farm here and has to buy a non-resident license. LOL

But yeah.......$475 to hunt deer. :(Greg reminded me last night that a nonresident Colorado combo Bull/Cow ELK tagisonly $25 more than that.

At the rate of my success vs. cost of hunting there I figure in a couple of years I could have just gone on a fully guided Pike Co. hunt. We sure do have fun though trying to figure it out and hunting together.:D
I think this is our year though, if we just keep doing everything right sooner or later...........

If one of you guys drives a white Toyota Tundra with GA plates.......yes you do.

Just remember to put your gear away this year. That way you'll only have to buy it once. That makes it even more expensive.;)

No one in our party has a white Toyota Tundra.

But if you see a silver Dodge Ram, GA tags of course, with a Bowtech sticker on the back window and a Camo Deer skull decal on the tailgate, stop and say hello!

Good hunting to ya!

Nope, too Damn poor! I have permission to hunt in Effingham County, but being in college I just cant afford it. The tags arent as bad as the gas from Springfield,MO to Effingham, IL tho. That makes me sick thinking about it. Next year when I get a full time job I plan to hit up the girlfriends 200 acre farm tho.:D

RE: Anyone Apply For There ILLINOIS NR Deer Tags?

I would like to apologize on behalf of the true sportsmen of Illinois. Due to the last two elections for Governor our state has been filled with greed and abuse of the Natural Resources we used to love to share with our fellow out of states sportsmen. Our Governor takes, takes and takes more from our Resources to pay down a state debt that is filled with corruption, clout payouts and poor spending programs. We charge more for out of state hunters yet our DNR is stretched and theft and poaching is on the rise.

I no longer have the opportunity to hunt with my father or step brother as it is too expensive for them to come back to hunt the state they grew up in. When I read threads like this I get embarrassed that my state feels a hunter should pay the same amount for a 300lb animal that states like Colorado charge to hunt a 600-800lb animal. I for one am truly sorry that our state feels the need to extort such fees for what they feel are "Trophy Animals" and "Trophy Opportunity". Sad thing is that they know people will pay it and continue to push the envelope charging more.

I'm from New Jersey and our governor is no differnt then yours.....takes, takes, and takes some more. Funny thing is, our governor was born and raised in Illinois, could it be something in soil? I agree, very expensive to hunt there, but I have something great there in Brown County, and the local people are super nice, nothing like the A-holes of New Jersey

I will be hunting a weekend or two in Brown County, when you heading there? What area of the county, the property I am going down to is south and west of Mount Sterling.

raceway we will be out there around November 3rd, give or take a few days, and we will be there thru the shotgun season. We are also just outside of Mt. Sterling, just off Hwy. 107, I think that is the Hwy. It is the Hwy. that runs behind the state prision. Have you ever gone into Flynn's Market? Behind the lunch meat counter in the rear, ask to see the mounts, they will let you view them. Bring paper towels, cause you will drool

I will have to check it out, we are slipping in before shotgun season to try and get a good buck before all the blasting begins.

I did the online application on Sunday morning. 8 PA guys heading to Pike Co. on 11-06-08. Good luck to the rest of you guys making the trek this season. $473 seems relative to the price of gas we'll be paying to travel out there in Nov.

Nope- I fell upon this by chance. I have a neighbor that never bowhunted and his wife has the largest mount in the house. After taking him twice and putting him on good bucks he said he would take me shotgun hunting by Mount Sterling on her parents little farm. After doing some research they have 102 acres to hunt with ponds, a creek and a few good funnels from other properties. I told him screw the shotguns, lets get down for early November bow season. I know they have stands we can use but I am trying to get down in the next couple of weeks to walk the property. I know that some huge deer have been taken in the area over the years so it will be my weekend spot, it also has a small house so all I have is gas to cover.
