Turkey Broadheads
#1
Are the mechanical heads any better at anchoring a turkey? I' ve taken several turkeys with a bow with both thunderheads and muzzy' s and it is always a footrace after the shot. I' ve never used a gobble stopper either, do these help? What have you guys had luck with, short of head shots do the expandables or gobble stoppers keep them where they are?

A lot of guys use a standard broadhead like a Muzzy or Thunderhead and add some kind of stopper to it. An example is the muzzy Grasshopper.
Another option which I like is to use a wide cutting mechanical. Some very good heads to check out are the Rocket Hammerheads/GKF Reapers, Rocky Mountain Snyper or Ironhead XP, NAP Spitfire, or the new NAP Scorpions.
Good luck on your search,oh by the way if you like a tradtional style head it is also well worth checking out the new turkey / small game head by Steelforce.

James just about summed it up. My personal favorite head is the NAP Gobbler Getters. They are basically Spitfires with a conical head which dispurses a tremendous amount of energy in the bird.
I have taken several birds with traditional heads, traditional heads with grass hoppers and large cutting diameter mechanicals. All of these setups are effective and I had no trouble chasing birds down. The three birds I shot with the Gobbler Getters died in there tracks, I mean they just hit the ground and were done. I would even say they did a better job stopping the birds than my shotgun.
