Albino/White Deer question?

How many have you seen one in the wild? Any pics to post? Legal to kill in your state?Killed one?
Here in Wisconsin a proposal is up for approval to legally shoot one in the now 1 CWD unit.
Before it was Disease Eradication Zone and Herd Reduction Zone which are now combined.

RE: Albino/White Deer question?

Never seen one in the wild.

Illegal to shoot in IL. (Doesn't really make sense.)

OK to shoot one in MO.

I've seen 2 albino's in the wild--1 hunting and the other coming back from my cabin.Seen quite a few piebalds.Never tagged any of them. They are legal to shoot in Pa.

RE: Albino/White Deer question?

That does sound like a great hunt. I have been pondering myself on if I had the opportunity would I do it.
As of right now probably not as my family would be dissappointed in me. Also just to see that in itself
would be cool and would love more sightings for sure. Thanks for the perspective pal.

RE: Albino/White Deer question?

The albino deer or "white stag" as its known here is a very symbolic creature and is enshrined in our mythical beliefs. One was filmed a couple of months ago (probably in the Highlands) but its location has remained secret because of poaching. The people of Scotland wanted to keep this beautiful stag alive so its illegal to kill it. It is ofgreat sigificance to us but outsiders will never understand what it means to see it alive.

On the other hand I have no problem with killing of piebalds or any other white deer but not our white stags.

RE: Albino/White Deer question?

I've seen a few all white deer in my 32 years of hunting, but wasn't close enough to tell if they were true albino's or not. I've seen two piebalds, one buck and one doe. The doe I got a few trail cam pics of, and hunted her exclusively for 9 days before getting a 15yrd shot at her. I never saw the buck again. This ismy second favorite trophy.;)

Illegal to shoot in Illinois. I wouldn't shoot one, my fathers best friend always told me that white animals are considered sacred by most Native American Indian cultures. I have heard there is a herd in New York somewhere, here are a few links.

I'm thinking I would do the same. I guess when I'm put in that situation I'll truthfully be able to answer the question. I've never seen one.

RE: Albino/White Deer question?

No I would not shoot it.No need to when there are forests full of the same tasting deer.I thinkit would besatisfying enough to watch it grace my hunting grounds. But I would shoot a Piebald though.

RobinAim Low 05-28-2008 11:08 AM

RE: Albino/White Deer question?

Would I shoot it? Not just yes, but #$%^ yes! I don't get someone not shooting it because it is "beautiful" or "rare". Those are the reasons I would shoot one.AB&C class typical buck is just as rare statistically, and a giant non-typical more so. I doubt anyone on here would pass one of those up because of how rare or beautiful or satisfying to watch they would be though.

RE: Albino/White Deer question?

Not legal here.I'm not sure if I'd shoot one or not.

RE: Albino/White Deer question?

i've seen one on a buddies deerfarm, never in the wild. i've heard it's bad luck to shoot one. just what i "heard", not saying it's true. would i shoot one, not sure. just like anything else, don't discriminate
