Wood Ticks
Well I went out this weekend to check out the woods we hunt.We had 6 guys in the group, in the wood for two hours and we had at least 100 wood ticks crawling up our pantlegs in that length of time. We all sprayed the crap out of ourselves with deep woods off but these little buggers seemed immune, ive never seen so many ticks in my life, what is the deal? How do I keep these things off. I swear every 20 steps at least 3 of us had 3-4 crawling up our pants. we were walking the logging trails so we werent going through deep brush mabye 7" high in the highest parts. It was straight out of a horror movie except the spiders were replaced with blood suckers. Man are they this bad everywhere in Wisconsin? |

RE: Wood Ticks
I wear rubber boots when I go out and tuck my pants legs inside the boots. I still get a few ticks on me, but not as many as those that don't wear rubber boots. I have a buddy of mine that tapes his pants legs around the outside of his boots, this helps also.

RE: Wood Ticks
I went out and scouted a spot about a week and a half ago and I had at least 40-50 on just me. I use the boot tuck thing and tuck my shirt in. Sometimes I'll tape my cuffs on my shirt sleeves and pants as well. Underarmor and long socks will also help without having to go tranny like DT suggested.
Personally I think he just likes to dress in ladies underwear.;)J/K bud. |
RE: Wood Ticks
I used Repel Permanone this year during Turkey season and never got one wood tick. You can only spray it on your clothes because it's so strong. It works wonders.

RE: Wood Ticks
I do this every year in tick season. It is not 100% but it is close. The only down fall is you will smell like a stripper.
You can make your own tick repellent by adding 10 drops of pure rose geranium oil to two tablespoons of witch hazel oralmond oil in a bottle. Cover and shake to blend. Put a few drops on your wrists before going in tick-infested areas. The smell is okay, slightly lemony. |

I once heard that frequent control burning would help keep the number of ticks down.
