what bow for 15 year old first time bow hunter?
hi everyone. im 15 years old
last season i bought a pse silverhawk bow for 100 dollars online thinking it would be good to hunt with. it sucked. didnt even end up hunting with it at all. i have been hunting for 4 years now with a gun and would like to be able to experience the benefits of a longer season and the more thrill of hunting with a bow. is there a good bow that you could reccommend to me to hunt deer with thats not a huge amont of money? thanks |

Check out the Diamond line if you are looking for an entry level priced bow. The Edge in particular is a very popular starter bow. It has a very wide range of adjustment.

Reflex is an off brand of Hoyt still nice bows for less money. Try the Growler nice bow an is quiet shooting. A crossbow would be good to start with, then work your wayto a compound in a few years. Mossbergman its all about what you want, the compounds are forgiving enough, feel like you could start shootingone soon an be very comfortable by the time the season comes around. Whichever way you go good luck an if you need any help just ask.

RE: what bow for 15 year old first time bow hunter?
dont get a xbow, get a bow, my first bow i got when i was 15 was a pse nova, it was a perfect starter bow. If your gonna get a crossbow you might as well just get a rifle.

RE: what bow for 15 year old first time bow hunter?
I would suggest getting a compound, to me its just more enjoyable to shoot, quieter by a long shot, easier to maneuver in a stand, and lighter to carry than a crossbow. As far as which models, it all depends on what your specs are, draw weight, length, etc. Knowing your draw length and weight you can comfortably pull would be helpful in recommending more specific models.
The Diamond Edge is a great starter bow that will go up to 50lbs of draw weight and 28.5" of draw length and will run you around $300 for a good package setup. Other models with the same draw weight and length specs and price range are the Parker Sidekick and Parker Buckshot. If you can pull more than 50 lbs easily and want to go to the next step up, the Diamond Rock is available up to a 30" draw and 70lbs and will run you around $500 as a package. Another option would be the Fred Bear Lights Out, same specs, price around $470 as a package, and the Parker Trailblazer, around $500 as a package, same specs. You're best option would be to go to a local shop and get measured for your draw length and to find what weight you can use comfortably, then from there shoot a few different models that fit you and are in your price range and pick which one that feels best to you. Here are a few websites you can check out to get a better idea of each model and compare them a little more. http://www.diamondarchery.com/home.php http://www.beararcheryproducts.com/ http://www.parkerbows.com/pb/2007/index.html |

One of these weekends go to a proshop an tell them what you have got on your mind an shoot a few rounds. You would enjoy a compound bow more.

Forget about the xbow for now, you'll get much more satisfaction out of a compound bow. I don't know about Ohio but most states still don't allow xbows during archery season. I was also limited as to how much I could spend and my shoulders wouldn't let me pull these new faster bows very easily. I wound up buying a Diamond Justice, they're affordable and the cams are silky smooth. My bow set to 70# is much easier to draw than my buddy's Vectrix set at 60#. Although I've never shot them the Martin bows are also reasonably priced and they have a 15# draw range, at 15 your arm strength will grow quickly and this large range might allow you to get something with a little higher poundage and you'll have it longer before you outgrow it.

Bass pro can be a great place to go depending on whos behind the counter. Thats actually where I work at, Archery dept. at Bass pro in Concord, NC. I have heard horror stories about other stores though with inexperienced associates that are unqualified. Our store seems to be one of the better ones for having knowledgable help. |

Here is an EXCELLENT bow for the money. I think you get a VERY good bow for the money here. PSE has started offering great bows and have come a long way in recent years. They've always sold a ton of bows annually but the newer bows seem to be getting more praise.
The cam on this bow is actually the same cam that's on my target bow, and it will DEFINATELY shoot. http://www.pse-archery.com/prod.php?k=55445&u=0862NI And what's a crossbow? ;) |

How tall are you and what's your draw length? When my son was 15 he went from 5' 8" to about 6' 2" in one year, that's enough to outgrow the Edge. |

RE: what bow for 15 year old first time bow hunter?
You really need to go to a proshop where someone knows halfway what they're doing to help determine your drawlength and test out some bows. That's pretty generic advice, but it's really the best thing you do starting out.
Whatever your budget is, remember to factor in the cost of accessories as well. Your bow may set you back $450. But then add in a basic $60 sight, $40 quiver, $80 fall away rest, $50.00 for a decent release, and $100 for some mid grade arrows. Bingo an instant $330.00 has been tacked on.[&:] Ebay and online archery equipment classifieds are my friends. You can, at times find some decent deals on those sites. Just be sure to double check your sellers ratings and feedback from other buyers. But, I would buy the big ticket items at a proshop first. First, it ensures what your getting is correct and in working order. Secondly, you establish a working relationship with that shop. A good thing to have when a problem arises or you need advice. In answer to your question about "good" bows. A good bow is the one that fits you and you can shoot comfortably. Doesn't matter what label is painted on the limbs. |

At 5'8, I would stay away from the Diamond Edge if I were you. Look at the diamond rock and justice, Fred Bear showdown and lights out, PSE stinger, Parker Trailblazer just to name a few.

RE: what bow for 15 year old first time bow hunter?
Are you gonna grow still? If so I would reccomend buying used bows from an archery shop. They are cheap and a lot of the times you can find year old bows for about 1/4 what you pay for them new.

RE: what bow for 15 year old first time bow hunter?
yeah im still gonna grow
|
RE: what bow for 15 year old first time bow hunter?
i need a bow thats pretty compactt because im going to be hunting from a box blind as well as a tree stand
|
RE: what bow for 15 year old first time bow hunter?
