RE: Briefly describe your first buck...

My first buck kill was back in October of 1997 in Lawrence county Indiana. It was a four pointer with half of one of the antlers broken off. It was my first bow kill and he was up hill about 30 yards away. Ran about 25 yards and fell over and I was ecstatic. I remember it like it was yesterday.

My 1st buck was a 4 pt with a gun. But I am assuming you want bowkills.

It was a fat 6 pt, we had actually saw him over the summer. It was the 3rd buck that camepast methat morning, I gut shot him at 6-8 yds.A lot of mistakes were made after that and I didn't find him until the smell led me there. :(I had walked within a few FEET of him during the initial search. I can say that I am a better hunter after going thru that ordeal and haven't lost one since.

I went and hunted with my college buddy in Loudoun County, VA. His dad lent me his 30.06 and put me 20 feet into a huge tree very early in the morning. About 5 minutes after sun-up I see a buck walking and when he turns at 40 yards I shot him and he dropped instantly! It was only a 3 point but it not only was my first deer but my first buck as well. Later in the day, about an hour before sun-set I shot a 5 pointer while sitting on the limbs of a big cedar tree without a safety harness..what an idiot I was at that time. I know the odler guys probably were a little upset with me killing a little 3 and 5 pointer and ruining their chances of getting bigger, but they did not say a word to me about it and seemed so happy for my success....I felt so good driving home with those two deer and cutting them up that night. I have been hooked ever since.

The year was 1979 and I shot a nice WV 5 point with a Winchester model 94 30-30 withopen sights at about 50 yards. My first bow kill was a spike in 1989 and I shot it in the side of the head. One of the best blood trails that I've seen.

Mine wasn't that long ago. It was also my first ever deer. Sept. 30th, 2006.

He came in in with a BUNCH of does....and I picked him out. I shot him at 19yds....and my wife went with me on the recovery. She turned out to be very valuable in tracking. We had a great time.

Seems like a long time ago, now, though.

It must be something in the genes around here. The buck I took, last year, had that going on, too.

Anyways....back to the thread. Thanks, again.;)

spike yearling. I had no idea he was around until I saw him. Biggest contributing factor to me killing him was pure luck.

RE: Briefly describe your first buck...

I got my first buck, a spike like 3-point, in the mountains of central PA in 2001. It was afternoon on the first day of my first buck season. I had just missed a nice 6-8 point after he busted out of a laurel patch, andwas completely devastated. While we were walking back to the trucks around 3:30 (3 hour walk through mountains) my Dad noticed a deer standing on a huge boulder 50 yards away. I knelt down, saw antler and the rest is history. It was really lucky, but it completely hooked me on the sport.
