Worst hunting investment ever?
Lets hear it. What was the biggest waste of money you've ever bought. Mine was the rattling sticks/grunt calls that I bought 15 years ago. 2 big tubes that were notched, you rubbed them together to "rattle" with. The tubes doubled as a grunt call/doe bleat. Total POS.
Close runner up would be a pair of battery powered heated socks. Nothing like sweaty feet and wires in your boots to spell comfort.[&:] |
RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
I bought a ladder stand when I first joined the military. This was the first store bought stand I had ever hunted out of. Being in the military, I did not have a bunch of money, I think I paid $75.00 for it. It was maybe, MAYBE 10ft tall and the platform was like 18"x18" with no seat. I think it was made by API, no really sure, that was a long time ago. Needless to say, after the third of fourth time I fell out of it, I busted it up in a bunch of pieces. I am sure it is still laying in the woods somewhere in the U.P of Michigan.

Hands down for me it was Scent Blocker and Scent Lok, a waste of my money! The stuff has been sitting in a rubbermaid tub for the past 4 years!;)

RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
Dude, this one is easy. This is not only the wost hunting investment it just happens to be the worst investment I have ever made. Here you have it....My travel trailer, is the worst investment I have ever made. It sits all year until deer season comes and here in the last 2-3 years I have actuallt been able to afford to take some trips through the off deer season but the thing stays in the shop. It is almost paid for....Thank the lord!!!

RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
Worst hunting purchase? Cheap decoys, both for waterfowl and turkeys. I learned quickly to spend the money on more durable, more life-like decoys.

RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
I'd have to go with treestands......bought many junkers.....which is now I spend the extra cash, it certainly shows, I've yet to buy a cheap treestand that was awesome....though not always are the expensive ones awesome either.....but any awesome treestand I own wasn't cheap.
Bought some plastic/pvc raingear back in the day, in cold weather that stuff got so brittle and just broke apart, next year I bought some gore tex, which is still my tried n true raingear. |
RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
Ghetto-ass Motorola radios. I bet I've bought 4 sets now, and keep fooling myself into thinking that thelatest and greatestwill be better than the old set... They never are.
1 mile 2 mile 4 mile 8mile They all suck. They would work fine if you hunted in a flat desert or were talking across an open canyon... But everywhere I hunt, there are mountains in the way - andany sizable land mass in between the two unitstotallykills the reception. ...and their "rechargeable" batteries... Ghetto. Don't get me started. I've given all of them away- except a few that I keep for when we play paintball. Thank god for cell phones. |

Cheap Binos, by far the worst investment anyone can make.
|
RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
Very spendy (275.00 dollars) hiking boots for the mountains, cabela's made them and they sucked!! Lesson learned now. I now buy the same boots I use for work and there cheap and last just as long if not more.

Hunting related....a knock off layered archerytarget from BPS (the red one with white squares). I tore that one up in no time. Bought a cheap bag target for FPs and a Yellow Jacket for BHs and am much more satisfied.

RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
Fortunately there havn't been any in recent memory. That is only because I have screwed up in the past and have vowed not to repeat the same mistakes.

RE: Worst hunting investment ever?

RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
Oh, probably worse than the target are the Rocky Buckstalkers that I bought several years ago. They are heavy, too bulky, and even with 1000 grams of thinsulate, do a worse job of keeping my feet warm than the Irish Setters with 800 grams that I bought last year.

RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
I second the motorola radio's. The set I have only one of them receives the other which pretty much makes them useless. Pisses me off since I threw all the packaging out and the receipt.

RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
A cheap Wally World climbing tree stand, almost killed myself with it. Went with a Lone Wolf Sit and Climb, worth the money.
|
RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
Two quickly comes to mind:
1. Original Jennings Buckmaster compound.........too much recoil and cheaply made. Within a month the the thin metal cam sheared. Jennings took care of it and then I got rid of it. 2. A pair of waterproof Rocky hunting boots that I had bought to use in Colorado. Terrible for the mountains although they were great on the Illinois flatland. |
RE: Worst hunting investment ever?
One of the cheap Game Finder Thermal Game Recovery. I thought thatANY help would be good when trying to find a hit deer. But I have yet to get ANY help out of that thing.
