Fawn
My cousin was coming home from school today and she saw a mother doe lying in the road dead with a fawn bedded up next to it. Being an animal lover, she put it in her car and took it home. I know its against the laws of nature, but she saw "Bambi" and had to save it. Now her mom fell in love with it and is an animal lover too, so they decided to try and keep it. They raise horses so they have a big barn to keep it in, but they wanted to know if i had any insight into the matter...so straight to the forum i came with the info. Does anybody know anything thatcould help?

RE: Fawn
And thats why i came here...my mom was looking online at what it needs and my other cousin (her brother) works at the local feed store, so he can order what they need. Im kinda out on the limb though, i dont really know if its a good idea or not to keep it. Its not decision i guess though.

RE: Fawn
Check with your fish and game department beforethey do anything else, in many states it's illegal to keep wildlife as pets without special permits such as "Wildlife Rehabilitator" or other, so they may actually be breaking the law by keeping that fawn.

RE: Fawn
Although it certainly was a nice gesture, and something my wife would probably have done, I dont think its legal to keep wild deer as pets underthese circumstances.

RE: Fawn
As stated check with the local DNR. I dont know about there but here in WV you cannot have it pinned up or in a barn it must be free roaming also you need a permit.

RE: Fawn
I've been guilty of picking one up also.I had no intentions of raising it for a pet,I knew where a wildlife rescue was.As it turned out the place closed down for good and I had a hard time finding him a home.It was 9:00 pm before I found him a home.I'm not sure I'd be so hasty on picking up another one,but rather let ma nature take her course.

RE: Fawn
Probably Illegal, if someone wants a deer for a pet, that's fine...but do it the right way. buy a fawn off of someone that legally raises deer, a deer farm.

RE: Fawn
If you live neer woods were there is a deer population or even if there isn't they make great pets once you have hand raised them if you have dogs they will become just like the dogs, we had a doe that we raised and she hung around her whole life no pens or anything to keep her in. During the rut every year she would get bread and had 4 fawns that we know of, we tried not mess with her fawns and they all left on their own after about a year.
