RE: CrossBows are comming to town.
I don't think that crossbows should be allowed during the regular archery season unless you have a disability. I don't think that they are any more accurate, but part of the archery challenge is the act of drawing and holing at full draw without getting busted. However I believe they should be legal in a H.A.M., or any legal sporting arm season. I would love to do a spot and stalk hog hunt with one.

RE: CrossBows are comming to town.
ORIGINAL: DropTine249 Ill admit it....my views on trophy management may be in the back of my head..However, one of the old guys smacked a 160class buck just over our northern mostposted line about 4 years ago and another took a 170 class buck just over our south west mostposted line about 7 years ago..Well before we were there... At any rate, it sounds like New Jerseyis one ofthe new "sleeper states" for a B&Cbuck. I recall the description of that buck you saw that late evening, and never saw again (poachers)! I would never have thought to hunt NJ back in the day. It's right across the river! |
RE: CrossBows are comming to town.
I've got no issue with using crossbows during archery season but I do feel that there is a need to educate hunters about their true capabilities. I've talked to too many hunters who wouldn't hesitate to shoot at a deer at 100 yards with one.

Legal in Indiana for all but the early archery deer season, any game. I hunt with both a recurve and a crossbow. They're about the same to me, both are sticks with strings that launch feathered sticks, and both give meadditionalmonths in the woods that I wouldn't otherwise have.

RE: CrossBows are comming to town.
They introduced crossbows for everyone to use in my region a few years ago and everyone was up in arms over it. Even I wasn't crazy about it, but since then I have learned that the impact has been minimal and while there are guys out there with a crossbow in hand that treat it like a rifle (i.e. taking ridiculous long shots, not understanding shot angles for an arrow, shooting at running deer, etc.) they are slowly learning. That's all part of it and as long as they learn and hunt within the limitations of their weapons and hunt safely, it's all good.
If it wasn't for crossbows I wouldn't be able to share time in the woods with my father during archery season. |
RE: CrossBows are comming to town.
I admit to being a CB basher at one time. That was until my Dad picked one up after having 4 surgeries on his shoulder. It had been 20+ years since he bowhunted and now its great to see him in the woods again. He's still out there during the gun season just until it gets to cold.I think its a great oppurtunity for people to get out and enjoy the outdoors with decent weather.I know think they will be just another fad that will peter out with a little time.IMO

RE: CrossBows are comming to town.
Im all for it if someone has a disability and can not shoot a compound or recurve.
Other than that, they can keep them in the rifle, shotgun, or muzzle loader season with the rest of the shoulder mounted weapons. |
RE: CrossBows are comming to town.
Its against the law in Wi to use a crossbow or any draw locdeviceunless you obtain a class A, B or C disabled permit or are the age of 65 or older. I really wish theyd just let anyone use them. I have never had a problem with anyone using them.
