Tom Miranda?
How many of you guys are fand of Tom Miranda, ive seen a few of his movies and watched him a few times on ESPN and really like him. I enjoy watching his shows. What do you guys think of him?

RE: Tom Miranda?
The best thing about Tom Miranda is... he ain' t Jackie Bushman.[8D]
I really didn' t care too much for Miranda when he first started out, but I do think he' s ' matured' some in the past couple of years. |

RE: Tom Miranda?
I think what makes him so " Ehhhh" is that he' s a terrible actor and comes across either a little phony or a little too much at times... but like they say, the guy does it all and really seems to enjoy himself a lot. I guess he got his roots really big in Trapping in the early days. I think he' s probably a pretty good woodsman and outdoorsman. When he stood there at full draw in knee deep freezing water on a cold Alaska rainy day while that grizzly stood up and looked at him from about 18 yards I gained a lot of respect for him.:eek:He could use a couple acting lesson though.;)(I do miss that  imodicon)
KRISKEN: Another one of his sayings that doesn' t fit is, " he came right down the garden path" . YUK |

RE: Tom Miranda?
Your right, he could use some acting lessons. His personality on camera stinks[:' (]
But his bowhunts for Grizzly and Cape buffalo have really impressed me alot. He may not be the best hunting personality, but the guy sure can bowhunt, and for that he has all of my respect. |
RE: Tom Miranda?
He kind of gets on my nerves. I like his shows but I have to watch them with the volume off.
|
RE: Tom Miranda?
I find Miranda too much for my taste. I don' t watch his show unless I have no other choice. His enthusiasm real or not is a little over the top for me.
|
RE: Tom Miranda?
Sometime alittle to dramatic for me. Another thing not only with his shows but the majority of them is that they seem staged. Like after a kill is made the camera goes past the animal & gets shots of the hunter walking up to it. Or when calling a turkey for example, the gobble is coming in & is in sight and they keep right on calling like it' s a couple of hundred yards away. Primos is about as close to actual being on the hunt as any of the shows.

RE: Tom Miranda?
The only thing I dont like about Tom is every time he shoots he says " good shot" or " good hit" even after he gut shot a deer he sad " good hit"

RE: Tom Miranda?
I absoutely hate how he finds some good sign, and looks at the camera and exclaims, " Look at this! Fresh whitetail buck sign!" Or... " We' re on the trail of a whitetail buck." or... " A whitetail buck has come through here."
Any of the above annoy the heck out of me. Imagine if everyone wrote, " I did some early-season scouting, and found some whitetail buck sign. Later, while hanging a stand, we actually saw a whitetail buck. During my first day on stand, I saw three whitetail bucks come by. I eventually chose the biggest whitetail buck out of the group, and released my arrow at the whitetail buck. While tracking my whitetail buck..." That' s why I don' t watch him very often. |
RE: Tom Miranda?
A buddy and myself were actually fortunate enough to speak with him on the phone long ago, (late 80' s) before he really started to get big. He does have an avid backround in trapping, and was very pleasant and helpful in speaking with us. We had several questions for him about wildlife photography, how to get started, tips and tools, ect. He acted different on the phone than he does on t.v. in my opinion. I think there has to be a dramatic value that is put into hunting shows, to impress sponsor brass, television execs., ect., and not just his show. We all know that every show on the mainstream market today has its dramatic flaws. The one I hate most is the camera man sitting on top of the kill, and then having the hunters walk into view and exclaim " There he is!!" I wish they would all ban that scene forever, all are guilty of it at one time or another.

RE: Tom Miranda?
jeez wickman...i came here to post that SAME exact question after watching him on TV today.....a few people posted about other bow hunters and i wondered how others like this guy...im not sure what i think of him....he takes ALOT of animals with a bow which is probally a hard thing to do...but man...he acts liek a little kid every time he sees an animal...i do get very excited when i take game and when i dont i quit hunting because thats the fun of it all but to run around screamin INCREDIBLE BUCK...MAN! AWWWWWSOME buck! come on...if them cameras werent there he wouldnt do it so why do it for them...really nobody cares to see it..but today he got my respect by passing a shot on a bison at 45 yds i think..it was cold windy and snowing..you could here the wind..i was like what a moron i know he will take it..me and my dad always joke around abotu how they have to shut the sound recorder off while the camera man shoots the game because the guy missed..that would been in our record books...but im sure 45 yds is a drop in a bucket for a guy thats taken 100s of big game animals with a bow in all conditions and bowhunted a while..but he passed..that showed me he uses his head...hes OK in my book id say..
|
RE: Tom Miranda?
sure he gets excited and he probably wouldent do it if the cameras werent on him but he' s got a tv show and im sure they ask him to do that, besides almost all the movies you watch the hunters get excited like that. Look at Roger Raglin, you ever see him he sounds like he' s having a heart attac and ive seen a few others that get pretty excited as well.

RE: Tom Miranda?
Like it was said at least its not Buckmasters!!
|
RE: Tom Miranda?
HE HAS A GOOD VIDEOS AND AWESOME HUNTS BUT I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT HE SHOULD BE ARRESTED FOR OVER ACTING. I SURE WISH I HAD HIS JOB THOU BUT HE MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT. IF MY VIDEOS EVER GET MARKETED I SURE HOPE I DON' T COME ACROSS LIKE THAT.
|
RE: Tom Miranda?
AK... you come across that way over the internet.;);):D
I couldn' t resist. The jab was there for the taking. I just had to throw the punch.:D |
RE: Tom Miranda?
hey david, take it easy on the old guy!:D
Heck, we dig to find things to rip on nimrod about, he doesn' t open himself up much, take advantage of it when you can!;) I don' t mind Tom, or any of the hunters on the shows. I watch it more for the thrill of the hunt and the outdoors. After putting a show together with one of the film crews, I realize how pieced together they are now. Guess I need to get my own show and get criticized by you guys now![:-] |
RE: Tom Miranda?
Roger Raglin is flat out nuts. I like watching his vids but he can wear you out fast.
|
RE: Tom Miranda?
I started thinking about this after reading AK' s post. It seems that we always find things while watching these TV hunters that we can rip on them about. Do any of you think that the only reason we rag on these guys and critisize the way they handle themselves is because we are so incredibaly jealous of what they get to do for a living? I love ripping on these guys, but I know if I had the opportunity to take his place and do what he does I wouldn' t even hesitate long enough to kiss my baby goodbye. I know I would love to be on Primos or Mossy Oaks pro staffs and get to go on payed hunts every week to exotic places of north america, and in Toms case Africa. Yeah, I' ll continue to burn these guys, but I still wish I were in their shoes...or boots, whichever you prefer.:D

What about the mountian goat and muskox head-on? He shoots this big thing in the side of the face. It woofs and turns to run with his arrow dangling off it' s cheek, and the next thing you see is it laying on the ground doing the " death kick" ? Oh yeah. I' m betting the guide didn' t rack a few rounds in that one (<-sarcasm). And why in God' s green earth he felt the need to show that clip of shooting the whitetail in the head over and over and over again is beyond me. I think he could use a refresher course in shot placement ethics. IMO he' s just one more TV killer that bowhunting would be better served without. JRW |
RE: Tom Miranda?
Congratulations, Doc! You' ve just proved their marketing strategy works. You' re SUPPOSED to be jealous of those guys, jealous enough that you' ll spend your money to go hunt and fish those same ranches and resorts and use the same outfitters and guides that the TV dudes use. Of course, it helps when you' ve got the money to spend.
Fortunately, I don' t have excess cash laying around that I could spend that way, so the ploy doesn' t work on me.;) |
RE: Tom Miranda?
at first i thought he was a goof, but he seems ok now.
|
RE: Tom Miranda?
I have seen him a few times on TV - he seems cool to me.
|
RE: Tom Miranda?
We hunters are a tough group aren' t we? Don' t like this guy because he doesn' t get excited, but that guy gets too excited. This guy never shows his bad shots and that guy shows too many of his mistakes.
It reminds me of a bunch of women when a knockout walks into a bar. How can she wear that? Blah blah blah.:D |
RE: Tom Miranda?
Charlie,
There' s a difference between a guy who takes an otherwise good shot and makes a bad hit, versus a guy who takes garbage shots to begin with. Tom Miranda, from what I' ve seen, is formly entrenched in the latter. JRW |
RE: Tom Miranda?
JRW,I know i was just being a wise guy.
