It used to be built stands that I always hunted out of, but in the last few years as I got more serious and aquired more permission to hunt other properties, it has been lock ons.

Climber. I do have a few ladder stands and Loc ons, but those are out there mostly for my youngest son who I do not trust in a climber yet.

Climbers are too noisy, too heavy, you have to hump them in, out, set them up, break them down. All making your core temp raise which will cause you to sweat and leave scent. Not to mention the extra noise.
Noise is the first thing you mentioned.Get a Lone Wolf and forget about!:D

Last year I hunted out of a climber very often, trust me...it wasnt the plan...and I didnt like it.

Climbers are too noisy, too heavy, you have to hump them in, out, set them up, break them down. All making your core temp raise which will cause you to sweat and leave scent. Not to mention the extra noise. Think you dont make noise ? BS..Things his the stand, you have to climb, things bump the stand while climbing. You pull your bow up, it hits the rail. They are too noisy, even with noise reducing modifications.

I did shoot my buck out of a climber.

They are comfortable, though. And mobile. Once I found a good tree, I left it attatched to the base, all season. If I had aqquired my property earlier, I would have had hang ons all over, like I do this year.

I have 1 ladder that is set up on a GOOD funnel.

I have, man...about 20 or so hang on sets hung already.
LOL....whatever. I've shot every deer I've ever killed out of a climber, and that's quite a few. Some of us don't have the money to buy 20, 30 or however many fixed stands, climbing sticks or steps....Hell, a good fixed stand isn't cheap....Let's just figure 80 bucks for a good one. Yes, I know there are cheaper, but they are just that.....CHEAP. Speaking of noisy.....cheap fixed stands are about as loud as they come. So, if the average good stand is 80 bills, ah hell, let's go 50, just for the sake of argument. And you have 20 sets....Hell, that's $1000 just in stands, not to mention climbing stix......

NO THANK YOU. I spent $240 on my climber, and I can hunt everywhere I want to. As far as humping them in, setting them up, and taking them out.....Suck it up. It's still not as much work as setting all those stands in the spring.

RE: wHAT KINDA STAND YOU HUNT OUT OF MOST

I posted a post few weeks ago about ladder stands

Here is how my brain has dissected what I want to do since then

In 06 I was in a hunting club on the east coast of Nc, there were 18 members hunting 3500 acres- what I can't get over and why i will stand in my beliefs is the fact that 5 members took all of the bucks - these 5 members me being one of them used climbers the majority of the time we hunted - the other members sit in box stands, ladder stands, tripods, etc

I have made my mind up to get another climber - since mine is about 10 years old and continue to run and gun - this gives me the ability to hunt a new tree - fresh spot everytime -lot more flexibility

I mainly hunt public land so a climber is really the best option. Especially since I might have to move a few times in a day due to other hunters or non-hunters that can't read the hunting only signs.

Hang ons exclusively.I have 12 or 13 of them. Most of them are really inexpensive.I will be buying a Lone Wolf alpha assault pretty soon to use as a jump around stand,I'm not sure whether I am going to buy the sticks or use tree steps.

I use all ladder stands right now, but I would really like to have a climber, and a tripod.

RE: wHAT KINDA STAND YOU HUNT OUT OF MOST

I mainly use my climber, it give me so many more options. I have a fair amount of hang ons and my father likes ladder stands since he's getting olderbut I find my hang ons I always want to move to another spot and ladder stands are so loud while trying to get in position for the shot. I know climbers aren't the quietest while climbing, but there has been so many times that I've climbed a tree made a fair amount of noise and either seen deer not spooked while going up the tree or very shortly after settleing in. In fact, I tore my acl a few years back and after the surgery my first time out in my climber I probably made more noise than ever getting up a tree in a hardwoods, about half way up I notices two does feeding at about100 yards out. I don't know if it's because I hunt central Wisconsin where it's fairly populated, but I don't think noise is as big of a deal as people make it, and if you take your time, noice is minimal.

I like using loc - on's because I feel more sucure in them and they are easy to set up and take down.

RE: wHAT KINDA STAND YOU HUNT OUT OF MOST

Loggy climber for me. It isnt the most comfortable stand but hunting public land in the mountains, some of my spots are a 2 hr hike in. My Loggy weighs in at right at 10lbs. and that means alot when I go to the more remote spots.
Lock ns come up missing almost every time I leave one. Even with locks on them. Theifs will find away to get em down.

Lock-ons mainly , and then a Summit Climber.

Hangons mostly though I will again be acquiring another Lone Wolf climber soon. I have a few specific spots in fencerows, along field edges, and in some thick nasty stuff that require sticks and a hangon so I'll be using my LW Assault and climbing sticks a lot.

RE: wHAT KINDA STAND YOU HUNT OUT OF MOST

I have two ladder stands that I use in areas that I want to scout out and can't climb with the climber.

I primarily have loc ons, about 14 or so. The loc ons go into trees that I know I will hunt often, most of them can't accomodate a climber and it takes too long to monkey with a climber compared to climbing right into the tree with a loc on.

For areas where there is a lot of stand theft or where we rarely hunt I use the old climber (API).

As for cost you gotta know where to look. I use a lot of smaller loc on, the 18x24" ones which I can buy for less than 30 bucks off season at stores like Dick's around here. I also capitalized on the closeout section of Meijers several years ago and bought loc ons for 8-24 bucks. I do have some larger loc ons as well but have found the smaller ones to be less creaky in cold weather.

All of my bucks have come out of loc ons;)

I have about 6 hang ons and that is it. I have no problem walking in with it on my back beforelight and setting up. With a GOOD set of screw ins, hanging a stand is much, much easier than what many guys make it out to be.

Lone Wolf Alpha and LW Sticks! I can go in ANY tree I need to with this set up. The LW stands are lightweight and simple to hang!

I use my Equalizer climbing stand 85% of the time I love it.It sets up quiet and ways only 20#.You can level top or bottom sections with the crank of a handle allowing me to climb alot higher and climb slightly leaning trees.I use my ladder standor my hang on when I hunt on private land where I can leave them out all season.
