Will it ever stop?

Mods if you have to move this feel free, but I thought it would make for some interesting discussion during the offseason. Just wondered what everyone's take on Gas prices are.

When will it, or will it ever stop? I heard yesterday that Oil is expected to hit $200 a barrel and Gas to top $7 a gallon.

I am sure this affects several facets of our lives as well as hunting. My biggest expense in Turkey hunting 3 states this year was not food, tags, or lodging. It was simply put $$$ for Gas!![:@]

What's the answer? Now it affects our pocketbook when we fill up, but eventually it will affect everything we buy.

What in America is not dependant on Gas or Diesel to get to where it's going?

Dan

If it goes to $7.00 per gal it will cripple the economy. It's already taking it's toll.

The sad part about it all is that it does not have to be this way.

Dan,
I hear you, it is getting rediculous.....I don't thinkwith the price of fuel being as high as it is that all the big oil companies should be turning in record earnings...>We are gettin the shaft on the fuel....I work in the oilfield, and shouldn't be complaining too much but it is getting out of hand.....The exxon's and chevron's and all of the big companies shouldn't be having recordearnings if we are in a oil crunch, just my opinion....
You are correct in the fact that it will affect our everyday life, It cost me 100 to fill my truck up right now and our ranch is 5 hours from my house....It cost me 200 just to go to the camp and check out cameras and our feed site's, I have been going every other month in the off season to keep the feed sites from running out of feed.....I might have to try and get bigger feeders, I guess......It surely puts a strain on all thethings we do, next month we are driving to Florida for vacation, the actual vacation isn't going to cost that much but the gas sure will.........

Chevy Volt buy one when they come out in 2010, I am already on a list;) First new car for me ever;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lwkyqFB-34

Ten parts to this speech, it's great speech. In 1995 oil companies made 7% net profit, they are making the some today. There just selling a ton of oil. I for one am pretty sure it will go way higher, we are at peak oil production or are very close. The middle east is running on low. The mean age for an oil well is 48, they best wells are 45 years old.

I spend about 35 bucks a week on gas, I am trying to spend less. My truck has not been started in 3 months. The real hurt is for folks who use their cars for a living[:@]

Someone posted something at work the other day that really got me. It was statistics on the Bottled Water industry. In order to make enough of those plastic bottles for one year, they burn 1.5 Million barrels of oil[:@][:@]. That's just for bottled water, imagine adding all the soda/Gatorade/etc. into the mix. And they say it's us driving too much[>:]

They using a lesser "grade" of oil. Light sweet Crude is what we use for gas. SA and others have a pile of high sulfar content oil. The issue is our refineries can not refine it:eek:

You keep using the word "getting", it's not "getting" rediculous, it is rediclous! The bottom line is those camel jockeys know they have us at the point of no return reguarding oil, and they are taking FULL advantage of the situation. It will (in the not too far distance) get to the point where the average person won't be able to afford to drive. As crazy as this may sound, we will eventually have to go over there and TAKE it!
What happened to the cheap oil we were going to get when we liberated the people of Iraq? What a joke(I'm not laughing) that was. The sad thing is they say we aren't changing our driving habits/consumtion to any noticable level. Just wait until the chit hits the fan folks. It's scarey!!

I really think if it gets to a certain point (i.e. $6-$8 gallon), our country will finally do something about it. The problem is, why did we wait and let it get to this point? It will be interesting times, that's for sure.

You hit the nail on the head. It's all about demand. They can charge what they want and we are still going to buy it. They know we have to have it. Americans being taken advantage of.

 Then the next day sales would double to make up for the people needing gas....wouldnt do a thing, might even increase profits in the big scale, who knows.

Bush, lmao, yea it is Bush's fault.[X(]

Look at it this way, the oil companies such as Shell are making 7.5% profits, which is certainly not greedy. Name one other industry that only brings in 7 dollars out of every 100 dollars made. If they sold less amounts of oil, this wouldn't even be brought up. The only difference is they sale billions upon billions of barrels of oil, and take their deserved money IMO.

Want to lower oil prices and keep our money in our country? Tap that keg in AK and start drilling more in the good ole USA. That will put a stop to gas prices increasing, since we would no longer be at the mercy of OPEC. Foreign leaders are monopolizing our oil industry, not the oil companies.

Heck our own government makes MORE on gas than the oil companies do that actually produce the stuff, yet the left side liberals talk about taxing them even MORE to lower prices?...

Ive done research on this, and will look for the links I found.

Check out this video from Shells president, pretty interesting stuff.

Who is to build them? You think the oil companies want the price to come down? If we know it would make oil come down I'm sure they do also;)

They had rather have 7% of a thousand $ versus 7% of a hundred $[8D]

I'm pretty sure we're already seeing the affects of high fuel prices on hard goods, shipping, airfaire's, etc...

BTW, don't forget Dan, I'm running a diesel which is higher yet than regular gas for some unknown reason...It's a byproduct...

I think eventually the government is actually going to have to do something. Maybe when we get a President that isn't getting all his money from the big oil companies back home. If they don't, it will ruin this country. Gas goes up, everything else goes up-we are already seeing it- but the average guys paycheck stays the same. Sometime or another we're headed for hard times...

RE: Will it ever stop?

Gas is $0.12 per gallon in Venezuela. We also import more crude from them than OPEC. There's alot more to gas prices than just the crude. The Saudis and Venezuela are cutting imports to do their best to make sure a Democrat get elected. If that does happen, they know the fight against terrorism will lessen, the US will leave Iraq, Islam will gain virtually complete control in the Middle East and they will redirect all of their efforts to shoving Israel into the Med.

brucelanthier 05-09-2008 06:55 PM

RE: Will it ever stop?

Building refinerys is a huge part of the answer but, unfortunately, no one wants one in their backyard. Plus there is no real incentive for them to be built and a ton of hurdles to get one built.

Think of an hour glass - One end is oil and the other end is oil consumers. The current refinery situation is the middle of the hour glass.

Edit: Drilling for more oil anywhere still won't help because we still have the refinery bottleneck.

I work fpr UNIFIRST which is an uniform company and I drive 180 to 300 miles a day,and we have had to raise our prices twice this year and I expect another one soon, our customers and all of the other companies customers are taking a hard look at the cost of keeping theirworkers in uniforms and this could really put a crunch on me if I start losing bussines because they deside to cut cost.

Gas is flat out ridiculous. I am going to Nebaraska in the morning to turkey hunt. I filled my toyota truck up today and it was $55 which is the highest I have ever had to pay for that truck. Regardless, it is cheaper than most trucks, it is outrageous for a 4 cyclinder. There has to be something we can do!

We already have quite a bit of oil in ND,SD, and Montana, not to mention Alaska, the Governer of Alaska Sarah Poulin has stated the oil is available...so what do we do import it from OPEC and Venezuela, the reason why is the oil companies are importing is a reason to drive the prices sky high..
Are we to think if we refine our own oil that comes from US sources...that our prices will suddenly drop and we will all be saved from the evil oil companies, and gas will drop to 2.75 a gal...the prices will just go up and up...the oil companies have gotten a taste of (blood) big money soit won't matter the oil comes from...
