RUSS, I hope the treament works so you don't have to go under the knife.I know what you mean about getting older,I am only 45, but I hurt in my joints and back with much more regurlarity than before and it takes me longer to bounce back than just a few short years ago.

Don't sell the bow just yet.

I know at least 2 people that have had fusions in their neck within the last 2 years, and to my knowledge neither have trouble turning their head. I work with one of them and honestly, I don't notice a difference at all.

Don't worry about bad stuff until you have to...

I'll be praying for ya.

Sorry to hear this.
I second the chiropractor and /or an osteopath.(sp)
It sounds to me like a nerve pinch. Unless the disk is damaged ,you should not need surgery.Diskmanipulation and GOOD muscle relaxers can work very well when no damage is present.

Good Luck and I'll say a prayer.

I would get a second opinion before doing the fused disc thing. That's a last resort.
X2...For sure get a 2nd

The little feller don't like bone crackers as he calls them...I go on a regular basis for neck problems when I get headaches! The secound opinion and therapy may do some good surgury doesn't sound appealing! If you have surgury think maybe they can add a vertabre and make you taller? That way you can get on the rides at Six Flags and maybe shoot a long bow after you heal up.:D Even if it ends you archery you can still help with valuble advice and work on bows!

Get a second opinion if they recommend the surgery. (I work in health care and can't stress the second opinion thing enough)

My orthopedic doctor told me to give up shooting my bow as my shoulder is all torn up. Pfftt... Like that's going to happen. [:o]

Good luck!

Be over.

Been having pain from just below my right ear all the way down through my right shoulder into my right lower arm.

The pain finally got to me so I went to the Doctors, after doing a range of motion tests he tells me it looks like I have a herniated (sp) disk in my neck:(and put me on some muscle relaxants, pain meds and anti inflam meds plus some physio therapy.

If all is no better in a week or 2 I will have to go see a surgeon and have my neck fused. The Doc said I can all but kiss archery good bye if they have to do fusion as I wont be able to turn my head[:@]

I knew all those years of quick head turning to look at lovely young ladies was going to get me[8D]

Excuse me but I'm not so sure this is one is on the up and up...After all...

1.) The REAL Ausie-guy would have started the thread title with Me, not My...;)

2.) The REAL Ausie-guy isn't a whiner...;)

Just kiddin ya Mate, I hope things work out for you for the better.

Last fall I found out I have a Spinal Syrinx (look up that defintion to that one)in my neck so I feel for ya.[&o]

Oh, and ex-PBR Bullfighter Rob Smetshas 3 vertabre fused and he still shoots a bow...Hehad to adjust his form though because he couldn't turn his head all the way sideways.
